The Space

Sitti opened in November 2006 as a collaboration between downtown Raleigh developer Greg Hatem and the Saleh family, who also own the Neomonde restaurants. The name is Arabic for grandmother, chosen to honor the Lebanese grandmothers, the sittis, who the owners describe as caretakers of culture, faith, and food, and that framing carries through the restaurant’s whole approach to hosting rather than sitting as a name only.

The restaurant occupies the historic Heilig-Levine building at the corner of Hargett and Wilmington Streets, and the room itself centers on a communal Sitti Table and an antique Art Deco bar stocked with Lebanese liquors, wines, and beers. Pita bread is baked fresh daily in a wood-fired oven on site, which means the kitchen a couple is booking is the same one turning out the restaurant’s everyday menu, not a banquet-only operation brought in for the day.

Capacity & Layout

Private events can use several different spaces depending on size: a downstairs private room for 10 to 50 guests, an upstairs space overlooking Wilmington Street that seats 10 to 40 or stands 50, the communal Sitti Table, and the outdoor Jiddi courtyard, which alone runs from 20 to 120 guests. That range means a couple can book a rehearsal dinner for a dozen people or a full wedding reception without changing venues.

The Jiddi courtyard is the largest single space and the one built for a bigger wedding, with market lighting, a full bar, lounge seating, and A/V amenities already in place. A couple planning a reception for closer to 100 guests would likely center the event there, using the indoor rooms for cocktail hour, a rehearsal dinner, or overflow seating rather than the main event.

Amenities

The Jiddi courtyard comes with a drop-down screen, a ceiling-mounted projector, Wi-Fi, and a built-in speaker system, so a couple is not renting separate A/V equipment for toasts or a slideshow. The full bar throughout the restaurant is stocked with Lebanese liquors, wines, and beers alongside a standard bar selection, giving guests something distinct from a typical open bar.

Street parking and two parking decks sit within a block of the restaurant, and the R-Line, Raleigh’s free downtown bus, stops right outside at stop R-19, both of which matter for a downtown wedding where guests are not driving in from a rural venue and need a straightforward way to arrive. The building is wheelchair accessible throughout.

Location & Getting There

Sitti sits in the historic Heilig-Levine building in the middle of downtown Raleigh, at Hargett and Wilmington Streets, which puts a couple’s wedding in walking distance of hotels, bars, and the rest of downtown rather than requiring a drive out to a standalone venue. That location is part of why a rehearsal dinner or an after-party can spill naturally into the rest of downtown.

For a DJ, the indoor dining room, with its communal table and Art Deco bar, is a harder, tighter space where sound needs to stay controlled among close-set tables, while the open-air Jiddi courtyard, wired with its own speaker system, gives a bigger reception more room for music and dancing without echoing off the restaurant’s indoor walls.
