The Space

Rock Quarry Farm occupies the site of an 1890s homestead, with a Carolina farmhouse, outbuildings, a barn, and a cabin still standing on the property. Owner Camille bought the land in 2000 and restored the white farmhouse and its original character, and her son Miles has since brought the surrounding farmland back with lush lawns and fencing. It remains a working farm today, growing herbs, edible flowers, fruit bushes, mushrooms, and vegetables alongside hosting events.

The grounds carry 200-year-old oak trees along with magnolia, azalea, and dogwood, giving the property a mature, established look that a newly planted venue cannot fake. Miles also plays bluegrass with the band Big Fat Gap and makes furniture from pine harvested on the farm, some of which shows up in the property’s own buildings and grounds, so the working-farm character extends into the details a couple will actually see and sit on.

Capacity & Layout

The reception takes place in a spacious barn, which also serves as the property’s weather backup, and the farmhouse is set aside as the bridal party’s dressing space, with a designated pantry area for the groomsmen to get ready separately. That split gives both sides of the wedding party their own space without overlap on the morning of the wedding.

Three ceremony sites are available: an arbor, a gazebo, and a cabin porch, each offering a different backdrop across the property rather than one fixed spot everyone defaults to. A woodland fire pit with rustic benches and chairs adds a fourth informal gathering space, useful for a rehearsal dinner or an evening send-off once the main reception winds down.

Amenities

Catering is coordinated through the venue, with couples choosing from a list of approved caterers rather than bringing in any outside kitchen, which keeps food service consistent with a working farm’s kitchen access and logistics. Parking is described as ample, and the bathrooms are noted as tastefully designed, a small detail on a working farm property where couples might otherwise expect something more utilitarian.

The cabin on the property is also available separately as an Airbnb, giving a couple or their immediate family a place to stay on-site before or after the wedding rather than driving in from a hotel. The farm additionally hosts an annual event called the Salt and Smoke Festival, a sign of how actively the property is used throughout the year beyond weddings alone.

Location & Getting There

Rock Quarry Farm sits in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in a rural setting removed from downtown despite being within the same city limits, which gives guests a genuine countryside feel without a long drive out of the area. The combination of a working farm, mature trees, and restored 1890s buildings makes it a distinct setting from the area’s more polished event venues.

The barn, as both reception space and weather backup, gives a DJ a mostly enclosed wooden structure to work in, which tends to carry sound warmly, while the arbor, gazebo, and cabin porch ceremony sites are all outdoors and call for portable sound suited to open air rather than a fixed indoor system.
