The Space

Roar is a 42,000-square-foot entertainment and event complex in downtown Winston-Salem’s Arts and Industry District, housed in a 1926 historic building that originally served as the Twin City Motor Company, a Ford and Lincoln dealership. The three-story, 44,000-square-foot structure was designed by the Northup and O’Brien architectural firm and designated a local historic landmark by the City of Winston-Salem in June 2021. The building underwent extensive renovation beginning around 2020 and reopened as Roar in 2022 by Mayfair Development Partners, transforming the automotive facility into a multi-use entertainment venue themed around the Prohibition era.

The venue includes The Mayfair Club (a prohibition-era speakeasy-themed nightclub on the second floor with dance floor and stage accommodating up to 500 guests), The Rooftop at ROAR (an open-air bar with firepits, heaters, and private cabanas with downtown skyline views), The Visualiner (a multi-use event space with 600-person capacity, planned to open in 2026), ROARcade (arcade games), Twisted Putter (digitized mini golf), Boutique Bowling (duckpin lanes), golf simulators, and an outdoor beer garden. The space features 60 self-serve beer and wine taps, three full-service bars, and diverse food vendors in a food-hall format.

Capacity & Layout

The Mayfair Club seats up to 500 guests and functions as the primary nightclub and event space with a built-in stage for live entertainment. The Visualiner (opening 2026) will accommodate 600 people in a multi-purpose configuration. The Rooftop at ROAR provides outdoor cocktail and mingling space with weather elements (firepits, heaters) and private cabana seating. Entertainment areas like ROARcade and Boutique Bowling can serve as activities during events or separate gathering spaces. Multiple configurations allow for ceremonies, cocktails, dancing, and entertainment all within one 42,000 square foot building.

Validated parking is available, and the downtown location means street parking and nearby lots support guest arrival. The Arts and Industry District placement means the venue sits within walkable downtown with nearby hotels and restaurants.

Catering options include multiple food vendors and food-hall kiosks with self-service configurations. Bar service includes beer, wine, cocktails, and frozen drinks via the 60-tap wall and three full-service bars. Tables, chairs, and basic event setup are available. Restrooms and facilities throughout the building support large events. Wheelchair accessibility includes ramps at main and side entrances and hearing-impaired fire alarm lights. The property’s entertainment focus means duckpin bowling, mini golf, golf simulators, and arcade games double as guest activities during events, adding unique entertainment value.

The venue operates year-round and is available for private event rentals.

The Mayfair Club’s enclosed second-floor nightclub space with walls, ceiling, and stage structure provides excellent acoustic containment for DJ equipment and sound systems. Sound projects clearly within the room without outdoor dispersal concerns. The Rooftop at ROAR is open-air with sky exposure, so DJ setups require speaker configuration accounting for open-air sound dispersal and downtown ambient noise. The Visualiner (opening 2026) will introduce a third event space with its own acoustic characteristics.
