The Space
Ri Ra opened its doors on March 14th, 1997 in Charlotte’s banking district, and the interiors couples see today were meticulously restored in Ireland and shipped over, including an original shop bar and a 19th century Victorian bar that anchors the room. The pub survived a major fire in 2009, and the post-fire restoration brought in master carpenters, glaziers and painters to rebuild that same level of detail rather than replacing it with something simpler.
The result is a multi-level pub built around that Victorian bar, with a Whiskey Room offering a large selection of fine whiskies, 12 large TV screens and 4 pull-down projector screens throughout, and a rooftop patio for outdoor space in the middle of Uptown. Since opening in 1997, Ri Ra has become a regular hot spot for downtown locals and visitors, so a wedding here is happening inside a space that already draws a crowd on its own.
Capacity & Layout
A full building buyout seats 165 and holds up to 250 standing, but Ri Ra also offers smaller private and semi-private rooms with their own capacities, ranging from about 25 to 225 people depending on which room and configuration a couple books. That range means the venue can host anything from a full wedding takeover to a smaller private room reception, and it is worth locking in exactly which configuration the wedding needs early, since the room options scale so widely.
We have worked in this space before, so we know how sound moves through the pub’s private rooms versus a full building buyout, which matters here more than at a single-room venue since the layout genuinely changes based on which rooms are reserved. The rooftop patio adds outdoor space to the layout as well, useful for cocktail hour or a change of scenery apart from the main pub floor.
Amenities
Food service covers full Irish and American cuisine with appetizer, hors d’oeuvres and buffet options, and the bar carries an extensive beer selection alongside the dedicated Whiskey Room, so catering and bar service are handled in-house rather than requiring outside vendors. Live music plays on the downstairs stage Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9:30pm, and trivia runs from 5 to 7pm, both worth knowing if a wedding date lines up with the pub’s regular entertainment schedule.
The pub is wheelchair accessible, and parking is on the street rather than a dedicated lot, so guests should plan for Uptown street parking or rideshare drop-off rather than assuming an on-site lot. Noise curfew runs until 2am Friday and Saturday and until midnight Sunday through Thursday, which sets a hard end time for music depending on which night the wedding falls on.
Location & Getting There
Ri Ra sits in Charlotte’s banking district in Uptown, an area built around downtown offices and foot traffic rather than a quiet residential setting, so the pub’s regular crowd of locals and visitors is part of the atmosphere a couple is booking into rather than a private, closed-off room. The rooftop patio and multi-level layout give the venue its own sense of place within that busy Uptown block.
Inside, the pub’s original shop bar and Victorian bar sit within a room built around hard surfaces, TV screens and a downstairs stage already wired for live music, which means a DJ setup here is working in a room built for sound rather than adapting a quiet space, though the noise curfew of 2am on weekends and midnight on weeknights still sets the hard stop for how late that music runs.
