The Space
Anthony's at Paxon Hollow occupies the clubhouse of a public golf course, and the reception space is a ballroom built for a crowd: soaring ceilings, chandeliers overhead, and enough open floor to set a dance floor in the center with tables ringed around it. Windows look out over the fairways, so the room reads bright and green rather than boxed in, which matters once the sun goes down and the lighting rig becomes the main light source in the room.
The club itself opened in 1926 as a private course, went through a rocky financial stretch in the 1930s under Girard Trust, and became public in 1967 when Marple Township bought it from developer Ralph Bodek for a bit over a million dollars. It has hosted the 1932 Philadelphia Open and golfers like Walter Hagen and Ed Dudley, whose 1940 course record of 62 still stands, so there is real history under the ballroom floor even though the room itself is a modern addition to an old club.
Capacity & Layout
The ballroom seats up to 275, which is a genuinely large room for a golf club banquet facility and gives a couple room to build out a full sit-down dinner, a head table, and a dance floor without feeling like anything was squeezed to fit. At that size the floor plan usually splits into distinct zones: dining tables toward the windows, open floor and DJ setup toward the interior wall, bar off to one side.
Outside, the course runs to a par 71 over 5,709 yards, and while guests will not be walking all eighteen holes on a wedding day, the fairways and greens are what show up behind the couple in photos and what a gazebo ceremony looks out onto. Only four holes from the 1920s routing, 11, 12, 14 and 15, remain unchanged, but the visual character of a mature parkland course carries through the whole property.
Amenities
Anthony's runs the catering and bar in-house, with a full open bar available, so there is one point of contact for food and drink rather than coordinating an outside caterer around the venue's own rules. The restaurant that shares the building operates on its own, which keeps the banquet side of the club focused on private events rather than juggling walk-in diners during a reception.
A roomy bridal suite gives the wedding party somewhere to get ready and stage photos before the ceremony, and outdoor ceremonies move to gazebos on the property rather than the ballroom itself, so the room only has to be set once for cocktail hour and reception. Golfers also have a practice range and a pro shop, Malley's, on site, though those stay separate from the event side of the building.
Location & Getting There
Paxon Hollow sits in Media, technically Broomall, just west of Philadelphia, and is owned and operated by Marple Township rather than a private ownership group, which is part of why the greens fees and the golf side of the operation stay accessible to the public even as the ballroom hosts private events.
Ceremonies held in the gazebos put guests a short walk from the clubhouse, close enough that cocktail hour can flow naturally from lawn to patio to ballroom. Inside, the high ceilings and chandeliers that make the room feel grand also mean sound carries and needs to be dialed in rather than just cranked, so a DJ setup here gets positioned to project across the open floor without fighting the room's natural echo.
