The Space
For more than thirty years, Parizade has been part of Durham’s private event scene, founded by restaurateur Giorgios Bakatsias as what is now the flagship of the Giorgios Hospitality Group. It sits inside the Erwin Square building, and the restaurant itself is built around a vast open kitchen that runs the length of the dining room, so the energy of dinner service is visible rather than tucked away behind a wall.
Surreal artwork by Henryk Fantazos covers the walls and ceiling throughout the restaurant, which gives the space a distinct visual identity a couple will not find at a hotel ballroom or a generic event hall. Executive Chef Jason Lawless runs the Mediterranean menu, and the restaurant hosts live music every Thursday night as part of its regular calendar, so booking a wedding here means booking into an operating restaurant with its own established personality.
Capacity & Layout
Parizade offers four distinct spaces, and each one changes the shape of the event: the full main dining room seats 150 for a plated dinner or holds 300 for a cocktail-style reception, the Club Room seats 72 plated or 90 for cocktails and comes with its own private bar, and the Board Room fits up to 20 for a small, intimate gathering like a rehearsal dinner rather than a full wedding.
The outdoor courtyard is the fourth option, holding 120 for a seated banquet or 200 for a cocktail reception, and it comes built with landscape lighting, music speakers, and a waterfall already in place. A couple choosing between rooms is really choosing a guest count and a format at the same time, since the plated numbers run lower than the cocktail numbers across every space in the building.
Amenities
The Club Room comes with its own private bar along with a projector and screen, useful for a couple who wants to run a slideshow or a video during a smaller reception rather than renting in separate A/V equipment. Full in-house catering covers the Mediterranean menu across every room, and the kitchen’s visibility from the dining room means guests get some sense of the cooking happening behind their meal rather than food simply appearing from a hidden back-of-house.
Free parking is available both in front of the building and in the parking deck near Rutherford Street, which removes one of the more common headaches at a downtown-adjacent venue. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and keeps a full bar running across the spaces, and because it operates as a restaurant rather than a dedicated wedding venue, hours run Monday through Saturday from 5pm to 9pm, closed Sundays, which is worth building a timeline around.
Location & Getting There
Parizade sits inside the Erwin Square building in Durham, close enough to downtown that guests are not making a long drive out to a rural property, and the free parking in front and in the adjacent deck near Rutherford Street keeps arrival simple even for a large cocktail-style event pulling in 300 guests at once.
We have DJed a reception here, and the different rooms genuinely change the sound: the open kitchen and higher ceiling of the main dining room carry a bigger, louder party well, the Club Room’s smaller footprint and private bar make for a tighter, more controlled sound at a smaller volume, and the courtyard, being outdoors with a waterfall already running, needs its own separate consideration for where speakers sit relative to the water and the landscape lighting.
