The Space
The main barn at Owls Hoot Barn dates to 1804, a Dutch Bank Barn, a design rare enough that both levels walk straight out to ground level thanks to how it is built into the sloping hillside. It stands on hand-hewn North American Chestnut logs, wood that was more plentiful than the maple growing on the property today, and inside its 30-foot ceilings and massive hand-hewn beams are still the ones the original builders raised.
Owner Kerri Corrigan found the property nearly abandoned and overgrown in October 2011 and spent years restoring it, opening it as a wedding venue in 2014. The grounds have kept growing since: a conservatory built from upcycled 1800s windows and reclaimed barnwood was unveiled in late 2024, joining the original Circa 1804 farmhouse with its brick hearth and the restored Owl’s Nest Cabin, furnished in period style with a clawfoot tub.
Capacity & Layout
The main barn seats 180 for dinner and dancing, and the attached 3,000-square-foot bluestone pavilion handles more than 250 standing, which gives a couple real flexibility between an intimate barn reception and a larger, undercover outdoor party. Ceremony sites are spread across the property, including the creekside willow trees, the new conservatory for smaller ceremonies and elopements, the pavilion itself, a pergola, a bridge, a secret garden, and a bonfire area.
Parking holds 40 cars on site, and any event over 100 guests needs a shuttle, worth building into transportation planning early rather than at the last minute. Four restrooms serve the property: two communal, one ADA-compliant, and one for staff, with accessible access built into both the restroom and the reception barn itself.
Amenities
The main barn runs on industrial heating and air conditioning, so a wedding here is not left to the weather the way an unconditioned barn would be, while the pavilion relies on multiple fans to keep guests comfortable under its bluestone-paved roof. Between 26 and 32 overnight accommodations are available on site, spread across the vintage farmhouse, cabins, cottages, and vintage campers, so a wedding party can genuinely stay the weekend rather than commute in.
The venue has picked up WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Awards in 2016, 2019, and 2020, and it is pet-friendly, with a requested donation to a dog rescue in Puerto Rico for couples who want their dog part of the day. Owner Kerri Corrigan brings extensive experience in the wedding industry and in event planning and design to how the property runs.
Location & Getting There
Owls Hoot Barn sits in the Hudson Valley near the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, close to Coxsackie, with Hudson, Catskill, and Athens all nearby, and it is about 20 minutes from the Hudson Amtrak station and roughly two hours from New York City. The property’s name comes from the Native American translation of Coxsackie itself, meaning land of the owls hoot, a detail tied directly to the ground it sits on.
Event music in the main barn has to end by 10pm and outdoor bonfires by 11:30pm, curfews worth building into a reception timeline from the start. With the main barn’s 30-foot ceilings, hand-hewn timber, and industrial climate control, a DJ gets a room that holds sound well without fighting the weather, while the open-air pavilion, covered but not enclosed, calls for a setup built to carry across a larger, less contained space.
