The Space
Ontex is not a traditional venue: it’s an active manufacturing plant in Stokesdale, a 250,000-square-foot facility that opened in July 2022 as the company’s first U.S. plant, built by the Belgium-headquartered maker of diapers, adult incontinence products, and feminine hygiene items. Whatever event brought us there was a private, company-hosted function on that campus rather than a rented hall, the kind of booking that happens at a workplace rather than a venue built to be toured in advance.
That distinction matters for what a couple or a company should expect walking in: the building was designed around production lines, not entertaining, so any event space inside it is a converted area within a working industrial facility rather than a room built for gatherings, and it reads that way, plainly functional rather than decorated. A facility built to run around the clock is not laid out with a guest experience in mind, and that shows in the walk from parking to wherever the event is staged.
Capacity & Layout
There’s no published seating chart for this site because it was never meant to host one: at 250,000 square feet under one roof, the plant has the physical scale to absorb a sizeable private gathering somewhere on its floor, but the working layout is dictated by the production lines that, since 2022, have tripled in output and now run thousands of diapers a minute, machinery that a private event has to be staged around rather than the other way around.
What that means practically is that any event space here is whatever the company sets aside for the occasion, not a fixed room with a known guest count, so capacity and layout are decided case by case with the host rather than by touring a dedicated ballroom, and a DJ or planner has to ask specifically what area is being cleared for the event before assuming anything about the room.
Amenities
The site itself represents close to a $100 million investment and sits on a 350-acre tract in South Rockingham Corporate Park, at the interchange of Interstate 73 and NC Highway 65, the kind of scale usually reserved for heavy industry rather than hospitality. It has created hundreds of local jobs since opening, which is part of why a company might choose to celebrate on its own campus rather than off-site.
None of that translates into wedding-style amenities like a bridal suite or a built-in bar. What it does mean is a facility with serious infrastructure behind it, reliable power and a large, clear footprint, useful for a company event even though it was never designed with guest amenities in mind, so extras like catering, seating, and decor all have to be brought in from outside.
Location & Getting There
The plant sits in Stokesdale, in Rockingham County, off the interchange of I-73 and NC-65, well outside the small town itself and away from any walkable district, so guests are driving in and parking on a corporate campus rather than arriving somewhere with lodging or restaurants nearby, which is worth flagging for any guest planning to stay the night nearby.
Inside a working industrial building, sound behaves differently than in a ballroom: hard floors and open ceiling height carry noise further, so a DJ setup on a site like this leans on directional speakers aimed at the crowd rather than the room, to keep the music controlled in a space that was not built to hold it.
