The Space
Ed Richards picked the land for North Ridge Country Club in early 1966, betting that the Research Triangle Park’s growth would push Raleigh north, and by 1967 he had founded a club that now sits on nearly 400 acres of rolling, wooded terrain. What a couple tours today, a 70,000-square-foot clubhouse with two championship golf courses around it, is the result of that bet paying off over nearly sixty years.
We have worked an event in the Grand Ballroom, and the room itself explains why it is the club’s signature space: fourteen crystal chandeliers hang from vaulted ceilings, and a stage, dance floor, and attached terrace overlooking the golf course give a couple both an indoor dance floor and an outdoor extension for cocktail hour. The ballroom seats up to 500 guests at round tables or up to 650 theatre style.
Capacity & Layout
For a smaller wedding, North Ridge has rooms sized to match: the Lakes Room and Oaks Room each hold 25 guests, the Garden Room with its Parlor holds 50, and The Ridge, with its own lounge and fireplace, holds 70. That range matters because it means the club is not just built for its largest events, a couple with 60 guests gets a room proportioned to that size rather than a corner of a ballroom.
Food and beverage minimums run $5,000 Tuesday through Sunday and $10,000 on Friday and Saturday nights, figures that reflect a club built around full-service dining rather than outside catering, and they are a real planning number for a couple choosing a weekend date. The terrace attached to the Grand Ballroom can be tented for an additional fee, which extends the space outdoors without losing weather protection.
Amenities
The Grand Ballroom’s built-in bar sits alongside bars in the Garden Room with Parlor and at The Ridge, plus the full-service bar at Mulligan’s, so drink service does not bottleneck at one station regardless of which room a couple books. An executive chef and culinary team run the food program in-house, standard for a member-owned club but still worth noting: nothing is subcontracted out for the wedding.
Beyond the ballroom, the grounds include eleven tennis courts, a resort-style pool with three water slides and a diving board, and a fitness center, amenities a wedding party might use the morning of the event if a block of rooms or a rehearsal weekend stretches across a Saturday. Valet parking is required at the host’s expense once a dinner event passes 150 guests, a detail worth budgeting for on a large wedding night.
Location & Getting There
North Ridge sits about three miles north of downtown Raleigh, close enough for city guests without losing the wooded, private feel of nearly 400 acres of golf course and rolling terrain. Members maintain the club, with roughly 1,100 of them and fourth-generation family participation, which gives the grounds a lived-in, cared-for quality rather than the feel of a rented banquet facility.
That private, member-owned character carries through to how the club presents a wedding day: a couple is essentially hosting inside a community that has kept up the grounds for nearly sixty years. The Grand Ballroom’s vaulted ceilings and hard dance floor, built around a stage meant for live performance, give a DJ a room engineered for sound to carry cleanly across 650 guests, while the attached terrace offers a softer, open-air option for a quieter cocktail hour.
