The Space
North Pointe Church in High Point began in 1970 as a tent and a mobile chapel, evangelism outreach to the High Point and Kernersville area with just 14 founding members, and the buildings a couple tours today are the result of five decades of the congregation building as it grew. That history is worth knowing because it explains why the campus reads less like one fixed room and more like a series of additions.
The first building project came in 1980, followed by expansions in 1982 and 2002 as the congregation needed more seating, and the current sanctuary was constructed in 2008 after significant growth. Most recently, the Family Life Center was completed in the fall of 2019, adding a full-sized gym, a kitchen, and a fellowship area, which is typically the space a wedding reception here would actually use.
Capacity & Layout
A full-sized gym with a kitchen and fellowship area attached gives a wedding reception genuine flexibility: enough open floor for round tables and a dance floor, a working kitchen close by for catering staff, and a separate fellowship area for a quieter cocktail hour or a place for kids to sit away from the music. It is a different footprint than a hotel ballroom, closer to a community hall built for real use.
The sanctuary itself, built in 2008 after decades of growth from the original 14-member congregation, is the space most couples would use for a ceremony, with the newer Family Life Center next door handling the reception. Having both under one roof means no guest transit between ceremony and reception, no shuttle or drive between two addresses, which simplifies the day considerably for anyone traveling in from out of town.
Amenities
Beyond the sanctuary and Family Life Center, the campus includes nursery and children’s areas, useful for a wedding with young guests in the bridal party or on the guest list who need a supervised space during the reception. The fellowship area attached to the gym gives caterers and the wedding party a natural staging zone separate from the main dance floor.
The kitchen built into the Family Life Center means catering can be prepped and served on-site rather than trucked in cold, and the gym’s open layout means round tables, a head table, and a dance floor can all be arranged without the fixed seating that a sanctuary would impose on a reception layout. That flexibility is the practical advantage of a gym-based reception space over a fixed banquet room.
Location & Getting There
North Pointe sits in High Point, in the Piedmont Triad, easy driving distance for guests coming from Greensboro, Winston-Salem, or the surrounding Triad towns. The campus itself has grown in place since 1970, so the sanctuary, Family Life Center, and older buildings sit close together, which keeps a couple’s guests from having to navigate a sprawling property.
That compact layout also means vendors load in and out from one central area rather than crossing a large campus, which matters for a DJ’s setup timeline on a wedding day. A full-sized gym has the hard floor and open ceiling height that a basketball or volleyball court needs, and that same layout, wide open with few soft surfaces to absorb sound, means a DJ’s system fills the room efficiently but benefits from careful speaker placement to keep the space from getting too live for toasts and conversation.
