The Space
The Myrtle Beach Convention Center opened in October 1967 as a purpose-built facility designed to host large conferences, trade shows, and events. The property is now managed by the City of Myrtle Beach and continues serving as the region’s primary large-scale event venue. The center spans over 250,000 square feet and includes the Grand Ballroom, exhibit halls, meeting rooms, and an outdoor Events Plaza. On the grounds sits the South Carolina Hall of Fame, located there since 1973, and a Whaling Wall mural created in 1993 by artist Robert Wyland featuring bottlenose dolphins, loggerhead turtles, and the Right Whale.
The complex is designed for high-capacity events and offers the scale and infrastructure needed for large receptions, ceremonies, and celebrations.
Capacity & Layout
The Grand Ballroom is 17,000 square feet with 24-foot ceilings, accommodating up to 1,000 guests in an assembly format or divided into smaller configurations for separate functions. The 100,800-square-foot column-free exhibit hall features 35-foot ceilings and is divisible into three sections, each with drive-in access via eleven elevated docks. The hall can seat 2,500 guests with telescopic seating in theater style. Seventeen additional meeting rooms are available for breakout sessions or smaller gatherings, each seating up to 200 in theater style. The outdoor Events Plaza spans 30,000 square feet and is used for receptions, oyster roasts, barbecues, and outdoor activities.
This scale and flexibility makes the center appropriate for very large celebrations, whether a single grand ballroom reception or multi-room events with separate areas for ceremony, cocktails, and dancing.
Amenities
Parking includes over 2,047 spaces with 25-plus designated spaces for guests with disabilities. WiFi, electricity, cable, telecommunications, and water are available every 30 feet throughout the exhibit halls. A Sheraton Myrtle Beach Hotel with 402 rooms is directly connected to the convention center, offering immediate lodging for out-of-town guests without leaving the facility. The hotel’s Vidalia restaurant and M Bar provide dining and beverage options. On-site concession stands operate within the center, and catered menus can be arranged. Wheelchairs are available on a first-come, first-served basis for guests with mobility needs. The facility is fully accessible with handicap seating throughout.
The venue’s size and infrastructure are designed to handle vendor trucks, equipment delivery, and setup for large events, making it straightforward for DJs, lighting companies, and other services to bring in gear and set up production elements.
Location & Getting There
Myrtle Beach sits on the South Carolina coast about 90 miles north of Charleston, with direct access via US Highway 17. Myrtle Beach International Airport is located 3 miles away, offering regional flights and connections to major hubs. The town is a well-known beach destination with substantial lodging, dining, and entertainment infrastructure. The convention center location is just inland from the boardwalk and beach, so guests have easy access to coastal activities. Summer temperatures are warm and ocean-adjacent, making seasonal considerations relevant for timing and outdoor setup plans.
The Grand Ballroom’s 24-foot ceiling height and the exhibit hall’s 35-foot ceilings provide excellent vertical space for DJ sound systems and lighting rigs, with hard floors and large open interiors that carry audio evenly across the space without absorption issues, making it straightforward to achieve full-room coverage for dancing and celebration.
