The Space

A former Harley-Davidson dealership became this brewery’s home when Brendan Sciarra opened it in April 2018, and the building has kept growing since, now spread across 25,000 square feet after a $2.5 million expansion that pushed the operation out to the corner of New Jersey Avenue. That industrial starting point still shows: garage-style rollaway doors, brewery viewing windows, and a main dining room built for volume rather than intimacy.

The name comes from The MudHen, a train that started carrying passengers from Cape May Court House to Anglesea back in 1883, a bit of local rail history rather than a made-up brand name. In 2024 the brewery added the Station House, a dedicated event space built into the expansion, giving a couple a room set apart from the everyday bar crowd instead of asking them to share the main floor with regular customers.

Capacity & Layout

The Station House holds up to 140 people, which puts it in range for a mid-size wedding without feeling cavernous, and it comes with two full bars of its own so a couple isn’t sharing pour lines with the rest of the building. Beyond that dedicated room, the brewery seats over 300 across its main floor, upstairs lounge, and garage area, so an event that outgrows the Station House has room to spread into other parts of the building.

Layout-wise, the property breaks into distinct zones rather than one continuous room: the main dining room with natural light and windows onto the brewing operation, an upstairs lounge with a fireplace and cabaret-style seating for a quieter cocktail hour, the garage area with its rollaway doors for an indoor-outdoor feel, and the outdoor beer garden and patio for guests who want to be outside. A couple can use several of these zones across one event rather than confining everything to a single room.

Amenities

Three bars operate on the main floor, and the Station House adds bars of its own, so drink lines rarely become a bottleneck even at full capacity. The brewery makes its own beer on an in-house 150-barrel system with 8 to 12 rotating taps, which gives a couple a built-in specialty the venue is known for rather than a generic open bar, plus a full liquor license for cocktails and wine alongside it.

The kitchen runs a full menu of barbecue ribs, smoked wings, burgers, seafood, and made-from-scratch mac and cheese, which means catering doesn’t have to be brought in separately, the venue’s own kitchen can carry the meal. Parking is available on premises, the property is pet-friendly, and outdoor seating includes a lawn, fire pits, and cornhole boards, so cocktail hour has somewhere to happen besides standing around indoors.

Location & Getting There

Mudhen sits in Wildwood, New Jersey, and by the venue’s own account and outside reviewers alike, it’s the only brewery in town, which makes it an easy, memorable landmark for out-of-town guests navigating the shore for the first time. The brewery is open year-round rather than shutting down in the off-season, so a couple isn’t limited to a summer-only booking window the way many shore venues are.

We’ve worked an event in the space, and the mix of hard surfaces, brewery equipment, and open ceiling height in the main areas means sound carries and reflects more than it would in a carpeted ballroom, so a DJ needs to manage levels carefully in the main dining room and garage areas. The Station House and upstairs lounge, being more enclosed and separated from the working bar floor, hold sound tighter and are the better bet for a ceremony or toasts that need to be heard clearly.
