The Space

The Moseley Center is Elon University’s student center, a 74,000-square-foot building that opened in 1994 as the hub of campus life, later expanded by a 34,000-square-foot addition in 2012 that added the Lakeside Dining Hall and additional conference rooms. It is named for alumnus Furman Moseley and his wife Susan, and the original building was dedicated in 1995 at a ceremony where Margaret Thatcher spoke.

For an event, that campus scale matters: this is not a single room but a complex of reservable spaces spread across two connected sections of the building, ranging from a full ballroom down to small conference rooms that seat under twenty. Couples booking here are choosing a specific room inside a larger building, and that room choice drives almost every other decision about layout and flow.

Capacity & Layout

McKinnon Hall is the largest room, seating 220 for a banquet or 450 lecture-style, and it can be divided into three separate sections with individual dividers if a couple wants a smaller footprint for a more intimate guest count. Lakeside Hall offers a similar range, from 250 banquet seats up to 450 lecture-style, and splits into three rooms numbered 212, 213 and 214.

Smaller gatherings have other options within the same building: the Ward Octagon holds 25, Moseley 215 flexes between 30 and 90, and the Covington and Stovall conference rooms each cap at 16. That spread means the building can fit a large reception or a small rehearsal dinner without needing a different property, which is worth knowing when comparing the Moseley Center against a single fixed-capacity room elsewhere.

Amenities

The building includes AV equipment built into several of its rooms: projectors, projection screens, house sound systems, microphones and Crestron displays are available depending on which space is booked, so a couple is not always starting from a bare room. Dining options on site include the Lakeside Dining Hall, the Wintergarden Cafe and Irazu Coffee, and Mill Point Catering handles food service for booked events.

In 2013 the first floor was renovated into what the university calls the Student Center, adding a fireplace and a game lounge with ping pong, a pool table, foosball and shuffleboard, a detail that can double as a cocktail-hour space if a couple’s room booking includes access to that area. West Lawn is also available for anyone who wants part of the event outdoors.

The Moseley Center sits at the center of Elon University’s campus in Elon College, North Carolina, a building the university designed from the start to be the focal point of student life, which means guests unfamiliar with the campus will still find it without much trouble since signage and pedestrian traffic naturally route through the building. Because this is an indoor building with several separate rooms rather than one open hall, sound stays contained to whichever room is booked: McKinnon Hall and Lakeside Hall are large enough to carry a full reception sound system and dance floor without spilling into neighboring spaces, while the smaller rooms like Moseley 215 call for a scaled-down setup suited to a room built for meetings rather than dancing.
