The Space

Joey Medaloni bought this 22-acre property in 2008 and spent two years clearing and developing it before Medaloni Cellars opened to the public in 2012, on a scenic hilltop with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and, on clear days, a glimpse of Boone in the distance. Before the winery, Medaloni owned a string of downtown Greensboro nightclubs in the early 2000s, including the N Club, Red Room, Sky Bar, Heaven and Much.

The property carries 5 acres of planted vines within its 22 acres of rolling hills, laced with 1.5 miles of walking trails, and a log-built tasting room and production barn anchor the working side of the winery. Medaloni began studying winemaking with a North Carolina winemaker in 2008, learning classical French vintner technique without chemicals, and the winery now produces around 13 wines, from Chardonnay, Viognier and Pinot Grigio to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and house blends.

Capacity & Layout

The outdoor ceremony site holds up to 150 guests, set beneath a pergola nestled among the trees rather than out in the open, which gives couples natural shade and a backdrop already in place. The reception moves to a covered patio built with gas fire pits and string lighting, and four large garage doors along the patio can be opened toward the vineyard or closed against the weather.

Capacity across the property tops out at 150 seated guests, a number shaped by the pergola ceremony site and the covered patio reception space rather than a large indoor ballroom. That ceiling makes this a fit for a couple planning a mid-sized wedding who wants a genuine vineyard setting over a banquet hall, with the garage doors giving real flexibility to open the patio wide or seal it up.

Amenities

A bridal suite is available both for the wedding party to get ready in and for the couple to stay in overnight, and beyond that, the property offers overnight accommodations for up to six guests total across three cabins. Chateau Bergeron includes a queen bed, a shower for two, a fireplace and modern touches like a Keurig and mini fridge.

The Treehouse cabin spans two floors, with a 12 by 12 private deck and a leather sectional couch upstairs and a queen bed with an ensuite bathroom and a shower for two on the lower floor. Leashed dogs are welcome outside and on the covered patio, though not inside the tasting room, and couples can bring in outside food, though no outside alcohol is permitted on the property.

Location & Getting There

The winery sits about 10 minutes outside Winston-Salem in Lewisville, close enough for guests to stay in the city and still have a short drive out to the hilltop. Parking attendants are included with the wedding rental, and food trucks operate on the property on weekends from April through October for anyone visiting outside a private event.

We have worked this room, and the covered patio’s garage doors give a DJ real control over sound: closed, they hold music inside against the hard patio surface for a tighter, louder reception, while opening them toward the vineyard lets the sound spread out over the hillside for a more open-air feel during cocktail hour or dinner.
