The Space

Two historic homes make up this venue: the Gant-McAlister House, built in 1915 and occupied by the Gant family before it passed to the McAlister family, and the Dixon-Leftwich-Murphy House, a Gothic Revival design built in 1875. Dr. Jean McAlister, a prominent Greensboro pediatrician who helped care for patients during the polio outbreak, once called the McAlister house home.

The McAlister family later donated their home to First Presbyterian Church, and when the congregation no longer needed it, the house was relocated to stand alongside the Leftwich House, which set up the eventual pairing of the two properties. The two houses were physically joined together in 2016, connected by a black and white tiled hallway, creating about 9,762 square feet of combined event space out of what had been two separate historic homes. In 2025 the Leftwich House marks its 150th birthday, a milestone that says something about how long this particular structure has stood on its ground before it ever hosted a wedding.

Capacity & Layout

The lawn holds up to 150 guests for an outdoor ceremony, while the McAlister House interior seats up to 120 and the smaller Leftwich House interior seats up to 40. That gives a couple three distinct ceremony or reception options at different scales, from an intimate gathering inside the Leftwich House to a full outdoor wedding on the lawn.

Across the property, the venue tops out at 150 guests whether the event is seated, standing or a cocktail-style party, which keeps the numbers consistent no matter which configuration a couple chooses. The property totals 12,000 square feet, giving enough room to move between ceremony, cocktail hour and reception spaces without feeling cramped.

Amenities

A bridal suite and a prep kitchen are both available on site, so the wedding party has a private space to get ready and caterers have a working kitchen rather than a folding table in a hallway. Both indoor and outdoor spaces are available for use, which gives a couple flexibility in how they split up their day.

An indoor backup is built into the property for weather, since both historic houses stand ready to host a ceremony or reception if rain moves in on the lawn. That kind of built-in contingency matters more here than at a venue with only one indoor room, because a couple gets a real second location rather than a tent thrown up at the last minute.

Location & Getting There

The property sits on the edge of the Fisher Park Historic District, about 1 mile from downtown Greensboro and roughly 12 miles from the airport, so guests can stay downtown and still have a short drive to the wedding. That proximity also means the venue reads as a genuine historic district address rather than a standalone estate out on its own.

We have worked this room, and the two connected houses give a DJ a practical setup choice: the Leftwich House’s smaller interior handles sound intimately for a 40-person gathering, while the McAlister House and the outdoor lawn call for a bigger rig, with the tiled hallway between the two houses offering a natural point to run cable between spaces.
