The Space
Mariposa Chapel and Events is housed in a white chapel built in 1887 by war veteran J.W. Sigmon as a community church and Sunday school for the rural Iron Station area. The building was refounded in 1893 as New Hope United Methodist Church and officially aligned with the United Methodist Church, continuing its legacy of community service for over a century. After the church dissolved in 1997, the property remained unused for many years until it was acquired in 2022 and meticulously renovated. Mariposa Chapel and Events opened in February 2024, preserving the historic white chapel completely intact while adding a newly renovated reception hall, lush gardens with scenic walkways, a stunning terrace, and outdoor spaces. The white chapel with its charming interior remains the spiritual and visual heart of the property.
The historic chapel features white walls, wooden flooring, and charming pews that create an intimate, spiritual atmosphere for ceremonies. The fully renovated reception hall provides modern amenities while maintaining an elegant aesthetic. The gardens surrounding the property feature mighty oak trees, scenic walkways, and photo-friendly features including a fountain and arch positioned for ceremony and photography opportunities.
Capacity & Layout
The historic chapel seats up to 100 guests for ceremonies within its sanctuary. The fully renovated reception hall accommodates celebrations beyond the chapel capacity. Private getting-ready spaces include a bridal suite and groom’s lounge positioned for comfort and privacy before the celebration begins. The outdoor Enchanting Garden offers 6 hours of dedicated event time with full-day venue access from 10am to 10pm. A terrace provides covered outdoor space for ceremonies or celebrations. The property features lush gardens with scenic walkways and mighty oak trees. A fountain and arch are positioned for ceremony backdrops and photography. The layout allows processions, ceremonies, and receptions to flow naturally through connected indoor and outdoor spaces.
Amenities
The venue provides comprehensive furnished decor and finishes included in event packages: rectangular, round, and cocktail tables, chairs, linens, place settings, select decor elements and centerpieces, premium dinnerware, and glassware. Catering services and bar service are available through preferred vendors. Event parking is provided on-site for guests. The venue is wheelchair accessible for all attendees and guests. Venue staff assists with setup and cleanup, reducing your day-of coordination burden. The property accommodates not only weddings but also baby showers, bridal parties, anniversaries, and corporate gatherings, making it a versatile celebration space for multiple event types.
Location & Getting There
Mariposa Chapel and Events sits on rolling hills in Iron Station, North Carolina, on a quiet country road. Iron Station is located approximately 7 miles from Lincolnton and roughly 30 minutes from Charlotte, making it accessible for regional celebrations. Iron Station was settled in 1789 and incorporated in 1909; it derives its name from its history as an iron mining town with a train station in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The rural, peaceful setting is surrounded by mature trees and open landscape. The historic white chapel with wooden interior and high ceiling provides excellent acoustics for ceremonies and exchanges of vows, while the renovated reception hall with its open design and hard surfaces supports clear sound distribution for DJ equipment and dancing throughout the celebration space.
