The Space
Lazy Hiker Brewing Co opened in May 2015 inside Franklin’s former fire department and town hall building, converting the truck bay into an industrial-chic taproom with soaring ceilings. The brewery operates a 15-barrel production system and serves from a full bar. The original 1950s civic building provides the character and bones; the barrel-vaulted truck bay now contains bar seating, production viewing, and standing room. An adjacent outdoor patio expands the venue into the open air, with a stage, fire pit, disc golf course, and scattered seating beneath the sky.
The brewery maintains both indoor and outdoor stages for live entertainment. Weekly live bands perform regularly, and the venue has built a reputation as a local hub for music and gathering. The community-oriented atmosphere welcomes kids and pets, and a food truck (Hiker’s Kitchen) operates on-site with varying hours to handle food service without the need for outside catering.
Capacity & Layout
The taproom itself is a barrel-vaulted space with natural high ceilings from the original truck bay structure. Bar seating and standing room face the production area, where guests can watch the brewing process. The outdoor patio provides additional gathering space with flexible configuration for tables and dancing. The disc golf course winds through the property, and the fire pit serves as a focal point for smaller group gatherings.
The two stages, one indoor and one outdoor, allow events to adapt to weather and preference. The indoor stage works well for performers who need climate control, while the outdoor stage takes advantage of natural light during the day and night air during evening events. Layout allows for flow between taproom, patio, and recreational areas without bottlenecking.
Amenities
Full bar service with the brewery’s complete range of craft beers, kombucha alternatives, and standard beverages. Hiker’s Kitchen food truck provides on-site dining, eliminating the need for outside catering arrangements. Disc golf is available free to guests. A fire pit provides ambiance and warmth, especially valuable for cooler months. Parking is available on-site and on nearby streets. Restrooms and water fountains serve the space. The venue has full electrical service throughout, including stage areas.
The brewery opens year-round and has hosted consistent entertainment programming since 2015. A second location opened in Sylva in 2019, but the Franklin original remains the flagship with both production and events capability.
Location & Getting There
Franklin, North Carolina, sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, approximately forty minutes from Asheville and one hour from the Blue Ridge Parkway. The West Main Street address places the brewery in downtown Franklin’s historic district, walkable to other local shops and restaurants. Ample parking on-site and nearby street parking. The setting blends authentic civic history with contemporary craft brewery culture, appealing to couples seeking a casual, community-focused vibe.
The truck bay’s industrial architecture, with its high exposed ceilings and open floor plan, projects sound naturally throughout the space. The minimal obstruction between the indoor taproom and outdoor patio allows a DJ to cover both areas effectively, with the patio stage providing an excellent platform for sound equipment and the indoor section benefiting from the truck bay’s natural acoustics and reflective surfaces.
