The Space

The house at the center of Landon Estate was built in 1828 as the Sanders-Myatt house, and it carries North Carolina Federal architecture with period details and original hardwood floors intact. The Gotliffe family bought and renovated the property in 2024, opening it as a wedding venue in Spring 2025 and naming it Landon Estate after their son, with 10 percent of proceeds pledged to the Autism Society of NC.

The main reception hall is new construction at 6,300 square feet, built with chandeliers and exposed beams in a style the venue describes as French country with low-country touches, distinct from the historic house itself. The 1828 house is kept as the private side of the property, with two dressing suites and its original hardwood floors for the wedding party to get ready in.

Capacity & Layout

The main hall comfortably seats 175 for a reception and can be configured up to 300, while a smaller gathering of around 100 fits for a cocktail-style event, so the same building scales from an intimate dinner to a large seated wedding without moving to a different room. A second, smaller hall configuration runs 4,100 square feet for parties that do not need the full footprint.

Ceremony options include the pecan grove, the spring bloom garden, or the main hall itself, giving a couple three genuinely different backdrops on one property, formal indoor, structured garden, or a grove of pecan trees close to a century old. The estate house itself, with its lounge rooms, holds up to 15, useful for a small rehearsal dinner or a family gathering the day before.

Amenities

Under the Oak Catering handles food for the venue, and the grounds include a bluestone patio and cocktail lounge that connect to a climate-controlled porch, so cocktail hour has a covered, temperature-controlled space to fall back on regardless of the forecast. The crepe myrtle alley and spring bloom garden give a couple built-in color for photos without renting in any additional florals for the grounds themselves.

Grounds access for wedding bookings runs from 10 in the morning to 10 at night, a wide enough window that setup, the ceremony, the reception, and breakdown all fit inside one booked day without a rushed changeover. The estate is also pet-friendly, so a couple’s dog can be part of the ceremony if they want that, and the pecan grove alone is nearly 100 years old.

Location & Getting There

Landon Estate sits in Clayton, roughly 25 minutes southeast of Raleigh and about 35 minutes from Durham, close enough for a Triangle-area guest list to make the drive without booking a hotel, though the wrap-around porch and grounds give plenty to look at for anyone who wants to arrive early and linger before the ceremony starts, whether they walk the crepe myrtle alley or sit on the wrap-around porch of the original 1828 house.

The main reception hall’s soaring ceilings and exposed beams sit over a wood floor rather than tile or stone, which gives a DJ setup a room that carries sound well without turning harsh, and the height of the ceiling means speakers can be positioned to cover a 300-guest floor evenly instead of blasting the front rows to reach the back.
