The Space

Lake Valhalla Club was built in the 1930s under architect Francis G. Hasselman in a Tudor style, set on the south side of a 90-acre glacial lake, with club grounds totaling 108 acres of forest, waterfall, log cabin, and docks. The land carried the name Valhalla before the clubhouse went up, given by the area’s earliest residents, the Delawares, and in Norse myth Valhalla means dwelling place of the gods.

The Ballroom is the anchor room, built with a vaulted ceiling, a fireplace with a mantle on either side, a balcony, and an adjoining porch with floor to ceiling windows facing the lake. The club only books one event a day, so a wedding here is not sharing hallways, parking, or staff attention with any other party on the property, and the space has picked up national recognition, including WeddingWire’s 2025 Couples’ Choice Award.

Capacity & Layout

The Ballroom seats up to 190 for dinner and dancing around a newly renovated 20 by 30 foot dance floor, with cocktail hour space rated for as many as 500 standing. For a smaller gathering, the Viking Room holds up to 50 for sit-down dining, and the Porch, connected to the Ballroom by the same lake-facing windows, fits 20 to 30, useful as a lounge or a cocktail hour overflow room.

Outdoors, the ceremony area seats up to 250, with a sandy beach 40 feet wide and 200 feet long and a 7 foot arch for the vows themselves. White tents are available in any size for any season, which means an outdoor ceremony still has a rain plan that does not force the whole party indoors, and a couple can genuinely plan a lakeside ceremony regardless of the month.

Amenities

All cuisine is prepared on site by the Executive Chef and the culinary team, with custom menus available, and a typical reception runs five hours with a full premium open bar, a champagne toast, and wine service built into the package. The Bridal Room, 11 by 18 feet with its own bathrooms, gives the wedding party somewhere private to get ready before the ceremony begins.

The club is wheelchair accessible with no steps at the main entrance and accessible parking close by, and valet parking is offered for the rest of the guest list. Non-members can book the event spaces directly, no membership required, and the grounds also carry five Har-Tru tennis courts, four pickleball courts, and three platform tennis courts, all things a wedding weekend’s out of town guests can use before the ceremony. We have played a wedding in this ballroom before, so we know how the room sounds full.

Location & Getting There

The club sits in Montville, New Jersey, on 108 acres that include the lake, canopy treelines, and a shimmering fountain on the grounds, giving guests a real sense of arrival before they reach the Ballroom doors. The lakefront setting puts cocktail hour photos a short walk from where dinner is served, with sailboats and docks visible across the water.

Inside, the Ballroom’s vaulted ceiling and two stone fireplaces are balanced by the adjoining Porch’s glass wall, and that mix of hard ceiling and window surface over wood and stone floor is the kind of room where we set speaker placement to cover the dance floor evenly without throwing sound back off the vaulted peak.
