The Space
Long before it was a hotel, this Savannah building spent over a century in industrial use: it started as a livery stable at 601 East Bay Street, later held cotton in a warehouse, and by the early 1900s was running as the city’s first Coca-Cola bottling plant. Kimpton took the building over in 2014, but its name still nods to that past; Brice comes from the Gaelic word for brick, echoed in the gray, locally-sourced brick exterior.
At 91,000 square feet, the building occupies an entire block facing Washington Square in Savannah’s historic district, a listing on the National Register that dates to the building’s construction in 1860. The old horse-livery arches are still visible today, worked into the architecture of the Secret Garden courtyard, so the building’s working past is something guests can actually see rather than just read about on a plaque.
Capacity & Layout
The hotel offers nearly 6,000 square feet of indoor event space split across several rooms: the Griffon room, at 2,099 square feet, holds up to 120 for a seated dinner or 140 for a reception, while the smaller Greene room, at 1,016 square feet, handles 80 seated or 120 standing. Slate, Mercer, and Sassafras round out the indoor options for smaller gatherings like a rehearsal dinner or a bridal luncheon.
Outdoors, the Secret Garden courtyard covers 1,797 square feet and holds up to 150 for a reception, framed by the building’s original livery arches. For weddings that outgrow the hotel’s own rooms, the nearby Charles H. Morris Center offers a larger ballroom at 3,600 square feet for up to 300 guests, giving couples a path to scale up without leaving the same historic corner of Savannah.
Amenities
Pacci Italian Kitchen + Bar handles on-site catering and doubles as a restaurant guests can use before or after the wedding itself, with a Wednesday prix fixe menu and a weekend brunch as regular fixtures. The hotel’s 145 rooms, including 26 suites with separate living rooms and some soaking tubs, along with the Juliette Suite set up for a boardroom-style gathering, give a wedding party real flexibility for lodging and prep space.
An outdoor pool stays usable year-round thanks to Savannah’s subtropical climate, and pets are welcome at no extra charge regardless of size, useful if a couple wants a dog in the wedding party. Valet is the only parking option, at $52 a day, worth flagging to guests ahead of time since there is no self-parking lot to fall back on.
Location & Getting There
The hotel sits in Savannah’s historic district near Washington Square, close to River Street and the rest of downtown, so guests staying elsewhere in the historic core can walk in rather than drive. Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is about 16 miles away, a short enough drive that out of town guests can fly in the same day.
Between the Secret Garden’s open-air courtyard, framed by the old livery arches, and the enclosed Griffon and Greene rooms indoors, sound behaves differently depending on which space is booked; the brick and stone walls of the historic building hold a reception’s music close indoors, while the courtyard calls for gear built to carry across an open-air space bounded by the original arches rather than a ceiling.
