The Space

The ceremony site at Kairos is an amphitheater set on a mountaintop, overlooking a valley across the resort’s 1,515 acres of Appalachian wilderness straddling the Virginia and West Virginia border. It is not a lawn dressed up to look scenic, it is a real mountain overlook, with a reception hall situated nearby so the wedding party does not have to travel far between the ceremony and the meal that follows.

Beyond the amphitheater, the property includes a barn suited to dining or events and outdoor pavilions, along with wilderness campsites that can hold 60 or more guests standing or seated for a more rustic outdoor gathering elsewhere on the land. The name Kairos comes from the ancient Greek word for a fitting moment or season, chosen deliberately by the owners for a resort built around outdoor experience rather than a conventional banquet setting.

Capacity & Layout

The amphitheater holds approximately 200 guests, with additional seating available as needed, which sets it apart from the intimate scale of most mountain venues; a couple planning a mid-size wedding has real room to work with here rather than squeezing a guest list down to fit a small clearing. The wilderness campsites offer a separate, smaller-scale option for 60 or more, useful for a rehearsal dinner or a more casual second gathering during a multi-day wedding weekend.

Lodging on site includes 42 RV sites with full hookups and four luxury yurts, three sleeping up to six guests and one sleeping up to three, all fully furnished with linens, full bathrooms, heating and cooling, and wrap-around porches. That on-site lodging matters for a destination wedding: guests do not need to book a hotel and drive in each day, they can stay on the property itself for the whole weekend.

Amenities

The resort sits along the New River, with boating, fishing, and swimming available through a partnership with Tangent Outfitters, giving guests something to do beyond the wedding itself if they arrive early or stay after. More than 80 miles of trails cross the property, split between dual-track routes for ATVs and UTVs and single-track routes for motorcycles, alongside hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding options.

A 12-station sporting clays course called the Mountain Course adds another outdoor activity for a group looking to fill a weekend rather than just an evening. Accessibility is only partial here, with a gravel and steep entrance road, worth knowing ahead of time for any guests with mobility needs, since this is a wilderness resort first and an event venue built into that setting second.

Kairos sits in Glen Lyn, Virginia, near Blacksburg, Princeton, and Roanoke, on land that actually crosses into West Virginia, so the resort’s identity is tied to the mountains themselves rather than to a single town. The property is open daily from April through November and on a reduced Thursday through Sunday schedule the rest of the year, worth checking against a wedding date early in planning.

We have worked a wedding at this resort before, so we know the amphitheater ceremony is fully outdoors on a mountaintop, open air with no walls to contain sound, which means a DJ setup there has to account for wind and the natural drop-off of sound across the valley view rather than relying on a room to hold it. The nearby reception hall, by contrast, is an enclosed indoor space, so the sound system carries differently there than it does up at the amphitheater itself.
