The Space
In Charlotte’s SouthPark neighborhood, Hyatt Centric Charlotte SouthPark became the Hyatt Centric brand’s first North Carolina location when it opened on June 10, 2021, developed by Beacon Investment Management Group as part of the larger Apex SouthPark mixed-use development that opened in 2020. Atlanta-based designers Rule Joy Trammell + Rubio built the interior around local history and landscape, and the lobby carries murals of that story directly, including a 100-county representation of North Carolina by local artist Hillary Siber Edwards and a depiction of Captain James Jack’s Revolutionary War-era ride.
The 175-room property includes 11 suites and floor-to-ceiling windows throughout, giving the building a bright, modern feel that sits apart from the area’s older hotel stock. A couple touring the space is looking at a hotel built specifically for this moment, not an older property renovated to catch up.
Capacity & Layout
The Liberty Ballroom is the main event space, 3,800 square feet seating up to 200 guests, with ultra-short-throw projectors and portable screens already built in for anyone wanting video or slideshow elements during the reception. Total meeting space across the hotel runs to 7,764 square feet over 5 rooms, flexing from 10 guests up to 200 depending on which combination a couple books, with the Brevard and Titus sections each holding 150, the Hagler section holding 120, and the small Queens Museum Boardroom seating 10 for a more private gathering.
The Liberty Ballroom connects directly to 2,100 square feet of pre-function space with its own floor-to-ceiling windows, giving cocktail hour or a receiving line somewhere to happen that is not the ballroom itself, so the room stays fresh when doors open for dinner and dancing. A couple wanting a smaller, more intimate rehearsal dinner also has the option of Mizu’s private dining room, which seats 23 on the hotel’s 9th floor.
Amenities
The hotel offers 175 guest rooms and 11 suites on site, so the wedding party and traveling guests can stay in the same building as the reception. IRO, the second-floor lobby restaurant, serves all-day brunch and signature cocktails with live music every Wednesday, while Mizu, the rooftop restaurant that opened in August 2021, brings wood-fired robata grilling from Executive Chef Michael Chanthavong along with an outdoor terrace over SouthPark.
Free self-parking and valet parking are both available on site, and the hotel’s accessible features include 32-inch clear doorways throughout public and guest room areas. A 9th-floor fitness center with high-tech cardio machines and floor-to-ceiling windows gives the wedding party somewhere to go the morning after without leaving the building.
Location & Getting There
The hotel is about 7.5 miles from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, an easy landing spot for out-of-town guests flying in for the weekend. Being part of the larger Apex SouthPark development also means guests staying multiple nights have retail and dining within walking distance of the hotel itself, not just the wedding events happening inside it.
We have worked a reception in the Liberty Ballroom, and its modern build with floor-to-ceiling windows and a flat, even ceiling gives a DJ predictable, clean sound for a full dance floor, while the adjoining pre-function space offers a separate, quieter zone for background music during cocktail hour before the ballroom doors open.
