The Space

Hotel Du Village carries more history than its French chateau look lets on. The land traces to a 17th century deed from William Penn to the Ely family, and the building itself began as a turn of the century schoolhouse before Dr. George Morley Marshall bought it in 1895 to build a country home. It went on to house the Holmquist School for Girls starting in 1917, a pioneer in progressive education whose most distinguished alumna was anthropologist Margaret Mead, and then Solebury School for roughly fifty years until 1978. Landmark Hospitality acquired the property in 2013 and turned it into the wedding venue and boutique hotel it is today.

What that layered past left behind is a 12 acre estate that reads as a lived-in European country property rather than a purpose-built banquet hall. Manicured gardens, towering oak trees, a duck pond, and a flowing stream surround the buildings, and architect and craftsman Morgan Colt designed much of the decorative ironwork and architectural detailing on the grounds, work distinctive enough that the main ballroom now carries his name. A couple walking the property notices the estate feels collected over generations, not assembled for one purpose.

Capacity & Layout

The two ballrooms give a couple real room to decide how their day should feel. The Colt Ballroom seats up to 180 guests under ten-foot ceilings, with original fireplaces, historic glass windows, and a reclaimed wood ceiling; the Historic Ballroom holds up to 140, with a coffered ceiling repurposed from the original restaurant flooring, a built-in wooden bar, and its own fireplace. Combined seated capacity runs to 240, so the choice between one room and both comes down to guest count rather than compromise.

Because the two ballrooms can be booked separately or together, a smaller wedding gets an intimate room built to its scale instead of a large hall dressed down to look full. The stone courtyard, shaded by oak trees, serves as the outdoor ceremony site, with the ballroom available as a no-fuss indoor backup, so weather never forces a redesign of the day, only a change of room.

Amenities

Twenty-nine remodeled guest rooms mean the wedding party and out-of-town guests can stay on site through the whole weekend rather than shuttling in for the ceremony. Catering is in-house, with farm-to-table, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free menus built to order, and the property keeps its own on-site bar, including the Historic Ballroom’s original wooden built-in.

Beyond the ballrooms, the grounds carry an outdoor pool, tennis courts, fire pits, a cigar room, a game room, cabanas, and European gardens with sculptures scattered through them, so a rehearsal dinner or Sunday brunch has somewhere to happen that is not the ceremony space repurposed twice. The property is wheelchair accessible, and a bridal suite is available for the getting-ready hours.

Location & Getting There

The estate sits about a mile and a half from downtown New Hope, close enough for guests to explore the town but far enough that the 12 acres feel private and self-contained once a wedding is underway. Parking is available on property, which matters given the estate’s size and the distance between the ballrooms, gardens, and guest rooms.

We have worked a wedding in the Colt Ballroom, and the room’s ten-foot ceilings and hard wood floors carry sound cleanly across a full guest list without the boom that lower, carpeted rooms produce, while the Historic Ballroom’s smaller footprint and coffered ceiling keep a DJ setup close to the dance floor for a more intimate reception.
