The Space

Hessenthaler Farms has stayed in the same family for four decades, a working cattle farm in Liberty that the family converted into an event venue after their daughter asked to celebrate her wedding on the land itself, land the family already knew every corner of rather than a property purchased and dressed up for the purpose. What had been a traditional barn took nearly two years to rebuild into its current form, with walls, picnic tables, bars, and decor all handcrafted from trees grown right there on the property.

The finished barn runs 3,600 square feet, wood-clad and fitted with heating and cooling so it works as a year-round space rather than a fair-weather one. Outside, a 2-acre pond anchors the grounds with a pier and covered dock, alongside a lit water fountain and a decorative silo, details that keep the working-farm character visible even after the renovation rather than erasing it in favor of something more generic.

Capacity & Layout

Maximum capacity inside the barn is 212 people, a solid number for a mid-to-large wedding, and the heated and cooled interior means that figure holds regardless of season. The outdoor veranda adds 2,000 square feet of additional space with seating for 60, giving a couple a cocktail-hour or overflow option that does not require the barn itself to hold everyone at once.

The pond and its pier and covered dock sit apart from the barn and veranda, a natural spot for a ceremony or photographs separate from where the reception itself happens. That split, barn for the sit-down event, pond for the ceremony, gives the property a built-in flow from one part of the day to the next without repeating the same backdrop twice, and it lets a couple stage vows and dinner as two distinct moments rather than one room doing both jobs.

Amenities

Propane heaters and a fire pit with wood provided extend the usable season on the outdoor veranda, while party lights and fans across both indoor and outdoor areas handle the practical needs of a long wedding day, warmth in cooler months, air movement and light in the warmer ones. Bride and groom suites are available on site, so the wedding party is not getting ready off-property and traveling in.

The property is wheelchair accessible, and parking sits within walking distance of the venue itself rather than requiring a shuttle. We provided music for an event on this farm and can speak to how the barn’s wood-clad interior and the open veranda outside it actually work together once a reception is underway, and how the handcrafted furniture built from the property’s own trees changes the feel of the room compared to rented tables and chairs.

Location & Getting There

The farm sits on 30 acres in Liberty, North Carolina, working cattle land that keeps the property feeling genuinely rural rather than a staged approximation of one.

Inside the wood-clad, heated and cooled barn, hard surfaces are softened by the timber construction throughout, giving a DJ a room that holds sound well without the harsher echo of a bare metal building, while the veranda outside offers a quieter, open-air alternative for cocktail hour before the dancing moves back inside.
