The Space
James Cox Brady built Hamilton Farm in 1911 as an English country estate in New Jersey’s Somerset Hills, and enough of that scale survives that the property still reads as a private estate rather than a banquet facility. The current event spaces sit around the Mansion: an adjacent lawn, a newly restored garden, and a ballroom added since the estate became a private club. We worked a wedding here and the grounds carry that estate feel from the driveway in.
The 1916 stable block, a 50-stall structure that was the largest and most lavish of its kind when it was built, now serves as headquarters for the United States Equestrian Team and trains riders for the Olympics, which places a working piece of equestrian history a short walk from the reception. The original mansion burned during the 1978 sale to Beneficial Corporation and was rebuilt by designer Percy Leach, so today’s building is a careful restoration rather than the untouched original.
Capacity & Layout
Wedding events use the Mansion itself along with its adjacent lawn, the restored garden, and the newer ballroom, which gives a couple both indoor and outdoor options without leaving the estate’s core. Two championship golf courses surround the event core: the Highlands, a Hurdzan and Fry design from 2001 that Dana Fry returned to renovate with Jason Straka in 2022, and the Hickory, the only USGA-rated par 3 course in the country, both shaping the long fairway views from the lawn and ballroom.
Couples who want their wedding party to stay on site have ten guest suites in the Mansion, each with a private bath and 24-hour concierge service, plus four more suites in the Brady Lodge with private baths, a gourmet kitchen, two living areas, and an outdoor deck. That is enough on-property lodging to keep the immediate family and wedding party together the night before and after, rather than scattering them across nearby hotels.
Amenities
A full catering staff is included with wedding events, which on a property this size means the kitchen is set up to handle a large reception rather than relying on an outside caterer working around unfamiliar space. The Brady Lodge adds conference capabilities with wireless internet and a private office, useful for a couple running rehearsal logistics or a family gathering the days around the wedding itself.
Hamilton Farm has been named New Jersey PGA Club of the Year twice, in 2019 and 2021, a golf credential that speaks to how the grounds and courses are maintained year-round, which matters for a wedding since the same crews keeping the fairways in shape are keeping the lawn and gardens presentable. The property’s peak wedding season runs May through November, when the gardens and course views are at their fullest.
Location & Getting There
The estate sits in Gladstone, in New Jersey’s Somerset Hills, on what was originally five thousand acres of pasture, woods, horse trails, and formal gardens before the property was subdivided over the decades. What remains still gives the Mansion and its lawn a sense of distance from the road, with the working equestrian stables visible in the near distance as guests arrive.
Because the venue was built as a country estate and not as a hotel ballroom, most of the event space, the Mansion, the lawn, and the garden, is a short walk from the guest suites rather than requiring a shuttle. For a DJ, that estate layout means running sound between an indoor ballroom with formal acoustics and an open lawn, and building a plan that accounts for both rather than defaulting to one system for the whole day.
