The Space
Greensboro Country Club’s Carlson Farm property is an 18-hole golf course approximately 10 miles from downtown Greensboro on open land in a pastoral rural setting. Greensboro Country Club was founded in 1909 as a five-hole pitch-and-putt course by Mr. McAlister on Summit Avenue and Dewey Street. The club expanded to a full 18-hole Donald Ross-designed course in 1911, with the prestigious architect providing one of his signature championship layouts. The separate Carlson Farm course was built in 1963 by Ellis Maples, a noted course architect, and operated independently as Carlson Farms Golf Course until a 1969 merger with Greensboro Country Club. The Farm course underwent a complete redesign in 2009 by architects Donald Steel and Jonathan Gaunt, measuring 7,296 yards at par 72 with a slope rating of 140, indicating a challenging course. The Farm clubhouse was constructed in 1975 after fire destroyed the original structure, and has been redesigned in 2001 and again in 2017 to meet modern event standards.
Capacity & Layout
The clubhouse accommodates up to 250 guests seated for dinner and dancing, providing ample space for most wedding celebrations. Multiple dining and event rooms are available: the Main Dining Room, the Sunroom, and the Private Dining Room can be used individually for smaller events or opened to one another for larger celebrations and receptions. The clubhouse layout provides flexibility in guest flow, with options for ceremony areas separate from cocktail and reception spaces. The renovation in 2017 ensures modern event infrastructure and amenities. Layout options range from intimate dinners in single rooms to full clubhouse utilization for larger celebrations. Golf-course views from the clubhouse provide scenic backdrops for events.
Amenities
Full kitchen facilities and on-site catering are provided by the venue, with menus customizable to couple preferences. A full-service bar is included, with alcohol provided by the facility, eliminating the need for outside liquor vendors. Valet parking and a large dedicated parking lot are available for guests. A dance floor is included in the reception space. Linens, silverware, and glassware are provided as part of the venue. Centerpiece decor and a sound system are included in event packages. Golf carts are available for guest transportation throughout the property, allowing elderly or mobility-limited guests to navigate the club grounds. Music must end by midnight per venue noise restrictions, typical for residential areas. The facility is member-owned and private; non-member events require sponsorship by a current member in good standing.
Location & Getting There
Greensboro Country Club’s Carlson Farm sits on open land approximately 10 miles from downtown Greensboro, North Carolina, in a rural area with established country club infrastructure and easy road access. The property is situated on naturally rolling terrain with mature trees and manicured golf course landscaping. The setting provides both privacy from urban noise and easy access to downtown amenities within 15-20 minutes by car. The clubhouse spaces feature hard flooring and enclosed rooms with moderate ceiling heights, providing solid acoustics for DJ performances and amplified music. The intimate scale of the dining rooms and reasonable distance from neighboring properties allow for mid-level sound projection appropriate to a country club setting without external noise complaints during evening receptions, with the midnight music cutoff ensuring compliance with residential noise restrictions in the surrounding area.
