The Space

The Keith House at Graeme Park dates to 1722, built by Sir William Keith as a summer residence and originally called Fountain Low for the natural springs on the property. More than 90 workmen worked to complete the house and its surrounding buildings. Dr. Thomas Graeme acquired the estate in 1739, renamed it Graeme Park, and added elaborate paneling along with marble and ceramic delft tiles around the fireplaces during mid-1700s renovations that still define the interior today.

The mansion has remained largely intact since the late 18th century and is now the only surviving residence of a colonial Pennsylvania governor. Elizabeth Graeme Fergusson, Dr. Graeme’s daughter, is credited with hosting some of America’s first literary salons here, with guests including Benjamin Rush, Jacob Duche, Francis Hopkinson, John Dickinson, and Anna Young Smith gathering inside these same rooms.

Capacity & Layout

The Keith House itself spreads across three floors, with an office, dining room, parlor, master bedroom, and smaller bedrooms making up the historic interior. A reconstructed Summer Kitchen, rebuilt in 1969 on its original site with an underground water cooling system, sits apart from the main house, and a Bank Barn built by the Penrose family now houses the visitor center and museum.

Beyond the buildings, the grounds spread across 42 acres with formal gardens, a Physic Garden of herbs, and nature trails, giving an outdoor option alongside the historic rooms indoors. Because the property splits across several distinct structures rather than one large hall, an event here is naturally arranged in stages, moving guests between the house, the gardens, and the barn rather than keeping everyone in a single room.

Amenities

Grounds admission is free, while a tour through the Keith House itself runs $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 60 and older, and $6 for youth ages 6 to 18, with children under 5 admitted free. The site is open Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm and Sunday from 12pm to 4pm, with the last tour starting at 3pm.

Accessibility is limited by the building’s age: the first floor and the Summer Kitchen are accessible to wheelchairs and walkers, but there are no elevators to the second or third floors, and the house is not air conditioned. The visitor center and restrooms in the Bank Barn are fully accessible, and parking is available on site.

Location & Getting There

Graeme Park sits in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, with official sources listing both Warrington and Horsham as its location, and Philadelphia roughly 20 miles to the south. The 42-acre property was donated to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission by the Strawbridge family in 1958 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960, so it operates today as a state-run historic site rather than a private event company.

We have worked an event here, and the mix of indoor and outdoor spaces changes how sound needs to be handled from one part of the property to another: the Keith House’s original plaster walls and low colonial ceilings hold sound close in a way a modern ballroom does not, while an outdoor setup on the grounds needs equipment sized for open air rather than a contained room.
