The Space
Gallo’s Fort Lawn campus is not a converted barn or a historic building repurposed for weddings. It is an active production and distribution facility, opened in phases beginning in October 2022 after construction started in June 2021, and it is enormous by the standards of any other venue nearby: more than 600 acres total, with the initial phase alone covering around 300 acres and centered on a 1.5 million-square-foot main building.
The scale keeps growing. Gallo committed an initial $423 million to the South Carolina operation, projected to create 496 jobs over eight years, and by August 2025 employment at Fort Lawn had already reached roughly 375 people, working toward 500 as more production lines come online, including the High Noon line added in February 2023. The company’s own long-term vision for the site runs as high as $1 billion and more than 1,000 jobs over several decades.
Capacity & Layout
For an event, the part of that footprint that matters is the tasting room. South Carolina changed state law specifically to allow Gallo to operate wine tasting rooms at the Fort Lawn location, and those rooms are the venue’s actual event space rather than a banquet hall or converted barn built for the purpose.
A couple choosing Gallo is choosing a working winery’s tasting facility, set inside a much larger industrial campus, rather than a dedicated event property built around weddings from the ground up. No seating capacity or room layout for the tasting room has been published, so a couple should confirm size and setup directly rather than assume a standard banquet footprint.
Amenities
Gallo itself dates back to September 22, 1933, when brothers Ernest and Julio Gallo founded the company in Modesto, California, producing about 177,847 gallons of wine in their first year. It has grown into the largest family-owned winery in the United States and, by some measures, the largest winery in the world. The Fort Lawn facility now serves as a hub for the company’s import and export business, handling bottling, canning, warehousing and distribution for its wine and spirits brands, and it started small: roughly 80 workers staffed the distribution center when it first opened in October 2022, before the workforce grew nearly fivefold over the following three years.
Because the facility functions primarily as a production and logistics hub, its listed amenities run toward tasting rooms rather than dedicated banquet infrastructure, dressing rooms or a built-in dance floor. What Gallo brings instead is the product itself: wine and spirits made and bottled on site, including the High Noon line, available in a tasting room that sits inside a genuinely large working winery rather than a themed replica of one.
Location & Getting There
The site sits at the intersection of South Carolina Highway 9 and U.S. Highway 21 in Fort Lawn, a Chester County town of roughly 1,000 people, small enough that the winery itself is now one of the area’s defining landmarks. The nearest major airport is Charlotte Douglas International, about 45 miles away, which is the practical reference point for any guests flying in from outside the region rather than driving from Charlotte or Columbia directly.
Setting is both indoor and outdoor across the property, with the tasting room itself indoors inside a large, hard-surfaced industrial building. We have worked an event in that tasting room, and the acoustics behave the way a big, high-ceilinged production facility would suggest: sound has more room to travel and less soft material to absorb it, so levels and speaker placement matter more here than they would in a smaller, carpeted banquet room.
