The Space
Free Range Brewing opened in summer 2015 in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood, founded by brothers Jeff and Jason Alexander along with their sister Sarah. The brewery is built around visible production: steel brewing vessels sit behind a short drink rail, so you watch the fermentation and crafting happen while you order a beer. The bar itself is constructed from reclaimed timber from a historic NoDa mill, and the bar face uses repurposed siding from a century-old mill house. Seating throughout the main taproom includes repurposed school bus benches mixed with conventional tables and chairs, creating an eclectic, welcoming space rooted in the neighborhood. A classic tractor sits out front as a quirky landmark.
The brewery’s large back room includes a stage for live music and performances. Board games and other games scatter across tables in both the main room and back room. A kids’ corner features books, chalkboards, and games for younger visitors. The brewery took two years of property searching before the Alexander family found this NoDa location and built it out.
Capacity & Layout
The main taproom seats 20 at the bar with room for 50 to 80 additional guests at scattered tables throughout the open room. The large back room with its stage provides dedicated space for live entertainment and can hold another 40 to 60 people. Both spaces flow openly into each other without formal walls, so the brewery feels connected as one experience. Outdoor picnic tables extend onto the street-facing area and expand capacity in warmer months. The open layout keeps sightlines flowing from the tap room through the back room and out to the patio, making the whole venue feel bigger than it is.
Amenities
The brewery produces and serves 24 on-site craft beers on tap, with guest beers rotating through available taps. Vivienne, a Nordic-inspired restaurant partner open Wednesday through Sunday, serves Danish hot dogs and Faroese seafood dishes in the space. Outside restaurant hours, outside food is welcome. A full bar with craft selections is always available. Board games and games are provided for guests, and merchandise including brewery shirts, hats, and glassware is available for purchase. Parking includes an on-property lot plus free parallel parking on E 27th Street and a parking garage entrance on E 27th Street. Well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome in outdoor areas. The venue regularly hosts live music and accepts private event bookings.

Free Range Brewing sits at 2320 N. Davidson Street in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood, an arts-focused area northwest of downtown. The neighborhood is known for galleries, studios, and creative businesses. It’s easily accessible from most of Charlotte via nearby thoroughfares and sits close to I-85. The large back room has exposed ceiling surfaces and concrete floors that reflect sound, creating two distinct acoustic zones separated from the main tap room. With the visible brewing equipment occupying prominent wall space in the main room, a DJ platform positioned in the back room away from the stage provides speakers and equipment their own space while keeping clear sightlines to both the equipment and the stage, allowing the brewery’s visual appeal to remain part of the experience.
