The Space

Founders Hall occupies the ground level of the Bank of America Corporate Center, the 871-foot tower that architect Cesar Pelli and HKS Architects completed in 1992 as the tallest building in North Carolina. The lobby one level up holds three Ben Long frescoes, each 18 by 23 feet, recognized as the largest secular fresco work in the United States, a detail worth mentioning to out-of-town guests who wander up during cocktail hour. The building itself carries an odd footnote: excavation for its foundation turned up threads and flakes of gold in the granite, a nod to Charlotte’s run as the center of the first American gold rush in the 1830s.

Capacity & Layout

Wedding capacity runs 150 to 800 guests, with the atrium and ballroom able to flex up to 500 seated for a full banquet or 1,200 standing for a cocktail-style reception, so the same room can host an intimate Sunday gathering or a large Saturday wedding without feeling wrong-sized either way. A mezzanine level typically handles cocktail hour, separating that portion of the evening from the ceremony and reception space below.

Founders Hall sets guest minimums to protect the room’s scale: 50 guests for a Sunday through Friday event, and 125 for a Saturday during peak season, which runs March through June and September through November. Final guest counts are due 14 days out and final payment 7 days out, both worth flagging to a planner early since they land closer to the wedding than some venues require.

Best Impressions Caterers holds the exclusive contract for food and beverage at Founders Hall, licensed through the North Carolina Alcohol Beverage Commission, and no outside catering or alcohol is permitted, a state-law restriction rather than a house rule. Complimentary parking comes with the booking in the Bank of America garage attached to the tower, so guests are not left circling Uptown blocks or paying for a separate deck before they even reach the atrium.

Decor comes with a specific list of restrictions: no sparklers, rose petals, glitter, confetti, candles without votives, fog machines, or command hooks, all worth passing along to a florist or decorator before they show up with a plan built around any of those. The venue sits connected to the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center and Uptown’s retail and dining corridor, giving guests somewhere to wander before or after the reception without leaving the block.
