The Space

Founders Grove sits on land settled by a Dutch Quaker family in 1682, and the brick farmhouse at its center dates to 1743, when Josiah Albertson built a 20-room house that later served as a civic meeting hall and a temporary schoolhouse. Owners Denise and Steve spent twelve years restoring the farmhouse and gaining approval to expand the old barn into a new Carriage House with post-and-beam construction, opening the property as a wedding and event venue in June 2026.

The farmhouse still holds its original yellow pine floors and built-in cupboards with brass hardware, kept intact through the restoration rather than replaced, and the property was once a 500-acre working farm that still ran 225 acres as recently as 1938. Chalkley Albertson, who restored the house in 1865, later served as a state assemblyman and helped found the White Horse Turnpike Company, a piece of local history that still surfaces in conversation with guests touring the grounds.

Capacity & Layout

The Carriage House is a 4,000-square-foot post-and-beam building split into a 2,580-square-foot gathering room for the main reception, an 1,107-square-foot cocktail lounge, and a 702-square-foot bar room, plus a loft and two covered porches. The gathering room seats up to 180 guests, with standing capacity flexing from 80 to 180, which lets a couple size their layout to an intimate gathering or a full Saturday wedding without feeling like they are borrowing space meant for something bigger.

Founders Grove sets a 100-guest minimum for peak-season Saturdays, but couples planning something smaller can book a micro wedding of 50 to 90 guests on select days, which matters for anyone weighing a big traditional reception against an intimate one. Sixty onsite parking spaces plus handicap-accessible spots mean guests are not shuttled in or left hunting for street parking, and the venue is wheelchair accessible throughout the Carriage House, though the historic Farmhouse itself is not.

Amenities

Two dressing areas come with a full-day wedding rental, the Farmhouse Suite and the Carriage House Loft, so the wedding party has a place to get ready without leaving the property. The venue carries its own New Jersey State Liquor License and runs the bar in-house, with packages priced $30 to $50 per person, and outside alcohol is not permitted onsite, which is state law rather than house preference. A short list of preferred caterers, including Andreotti’s, Weddings by Due Amici, Cathy’s, 12th Street, SAGE, and Ciconte’s, runs $90 to $150 per guest.

For weather, the two covered porches sit alongside the temperature-controlled indoor spaces, so a couple is not choosing between an outdoor ceremony and a backup plan on the fly, both options exist on the same property. Music has to end by 10pm under the local noise ordinance, with a 30-minute window afterward for goodbyes before vendors finish loading out, a detail worth building into the reception timeline early.

Location & Getting There

Founders Grove sits on six private acres in Magnolia, in South Jersey, with seasonal gardens, manicured lawns, and tree-lined paths connecting the Farmhouse to the Carriage House. Couples can hold their ceremony outdoors in the gardens or move it into the temperature-controlled indoor space if the forecast does not cooperate, and either way the walk between ceremony and reception stays short thanks to the porches. The bar room and cocktail lounge give a DJ separate zones to work with rather than one open floor, useful for staging cocktail-hour music apart from the reception soundtrack. With the gathering room’s post-and-beam construction, the exposed wood and higher ceiling keep sound from bouncing the way it might in a room with hard drywall and low ceilings, so a setup there tends toward warm rather than boomy.
