This Warren, New Jersey property traces back to 1940, when it opened as a public facility before its later transition into a private event venue. Forty acres in the Watchung Mountains give the grounds room for two very different settings: the Sherwood Chalet indoors and the Maple Grove pavilion outdoors, each built around a different idea of what a wedding day looks like, and a couple can lean into either one depending on their preference.

The Maple Grove is a converted pavilion strung with Edison lighting under tall ceilings, furnished with wrought iron tables and centered on a bar with a fire pit set in an open field. The Sherwood Chalet, by contrast, hosts only one event per day, so a wedding booked into that room has the full space and full staff attention for the entire day rather than sharing a turnover schedule with anyone else, which removes one of the more common sources of wedding-day stress.

Capacity & Layout

Across the property, events here range from as few as 40 guests to as many as 4,000, a spread wide enough to cover an intimate ceremony or a full-scale celebration on the same grounds. The Sherwood Chalet handles the indoor and outdoor combination reception, while Maple Grove is dedicated to outdoor ceremonies and celebrations in its open field setting, giving couples a clear choice between two very different formats.

Two bars, one indoor and one outdoor, and a large dance floor inside the Chalet mean a couple does not need to choose between an inside party and an outside one; the layout is built to let guests move between both. The venue’s own liquor licensing and certified bartenders cover both bars, which simplifies the beverage side of planning considerably and removes one more vendor from the couple’s list.

Amenities

Full-service, on-site catering with customizable multicultural cuisines is part of the package, along with the two staffed bars already built into the property. Pools, basketball courts, picnic areas, and other recreational facilities round out the grounds, giving a wedding weekend more to offer guests than the ceremony and reception alone, especially for families staying through the following day.

The Maple Grove’s fire pit and open field give the property a genuinely rustic outdoor option, while the Sherwood Chalet’s large dance floor covers the more traditional indoor reception. Sixty years of experience hosting Fortune 500 companies also means the event staff is used to managing a wide range of group sizes and formats without missing details along the way.

Location & Getting There

The property sits 30 miles from Midtown Manhattan, about a 45-minute drive, and Newark Airport is reachable via Interstate 78, which keeps the venue within easy range for guests traveling in from New York City or flying into the region. Onsite parking is available and the property is wheelchair accessible throughout, which matters for a venue drawing guests from that far a radius.

We worked an event in the Sherwood Chalet, where being the only event of the day meant no rushed turnover before setup, and the room’s tall ceilings and wrought iron accents held sound cleanly for dinner and dancing. Maple Grove is the opposite case: an open field pavilion where sound has nowhere to bounce and has to be aimed and carried rather than left to fill a room.
