The Space

The building this hotel occupies dates to 1925, standing inside Asheville’s Downtown Historic District, and it has changed hands more recently than it has changed shape. Parks Hospitality Group ran it as Hyatt Place Asheville/Downtown before converting it to a DoubleTree by Hilton, reopening in July 2021. What a couple gets is a century-old downtown building with 140 guest rooms, including five suites and a run of specialty corner-view rooms, dressed for a modern wedding.

Event space here is compact rather than sprawling, 3,914 square feet spread across the Foothills Ballroom and a handful of smaller rooms, plus a rooftop bar. That scale suits a downtown wedding built around walkability rather than a resort campus: ceremony and reception can happen a floor apart, and a couple’s out-of-town guests can walk out the front door into the city instead of needing a shuttle to see any of it.

Capacity & Layout

The Foothills Ballroom is rated for 140 people banquet style in its 2,002 square feet, with a reception figure that matches at 140 and a standing capacity of 170 for a cocktail-style gathering. That number sets the ceiling on the guest list here: a couple planning past 140 seated guests needs to look elsewhere, but for a wedding sized to fit, the ballroom is the one room built to hold the whole event without splitting the party.

For the parts of the weekend that do not need the full ballroom, the hotel breaks down into Foothills A at 770 square feet and Foothills B and C at 594 square feet each, plus a 900-square-foot Pre-Function space for a cocktail hour or gathering area between the ceremony and reception. The Montford Rooftop Bar adds a separate option, 1,056 square feet that seats 30 banquet style or holds 75 people standing.

Amenities

The rooftop bar, called The Montford, serves Southern-inspired small plates and craft cocktails with mountain views, which makes it a natural spot for a welcome party or an after-hours gathering once the main reception winds down. Downstairs, guests staying over can use the indoor pool and the 24-hour fitness center, and the hotel’s on-site dining includes Dogwood Cafe for guests who want breakfast without leaving the building the morning after.

Self-parking runs $25 a day with covered and secured options, worth flagging to guests ahead of time since it is not complimentary. Pet-friendly rooms are available for a $75 non-refundable fee up to 75 pounds, medium size, so a couple who wants a dog at the hotel for photos has that option. On-site EV charging is also available for guests driving electric vehicles into downtown Asheville.

Location & Getting There

The hotel sits inside Asheville’s downtown core, within walking distance of Harrah’s Cherokee Center, The Orange Peel music venue, and the River Arts District, so a couple’s guests have a full evening of things to do on foot before or after the wedding. Asheville Regional Airport is about 15 miles out, and the Biltmore Estate is a 10-minute drive, both easy add-ons for a rehearsal-dinner outing or a day-after brunch.
