The Space

Outside Cross Hill, Chateau Amelia is built around a Victorian home that postmaster Conway D. Dial raised in 1905 and expanded in 1913. Dean and Angela Thornton, with Jon and Anna Ruiz, bought the estate in 2023 and have been restoring it since, following fifteen years as Lady Amelia Inn, a French-Canadian-run restaurant and bed and breakfast. The house still carries original wood floors, woodwork, a wrap-around deck, two parlors, and a grand formal dining room under its chandeliers.

The grounds run to nearly four acres of mature oaks, landscaped gardens, and forest around the house and a separate event barn. That barn has vaulted ceilings, large windows, and an open layout, and the property adds a forest ceremony site, a cocktail patio strung with cafe lights, and a grand pavilion looking into the trees. A couple touring the property moves between a restored Victorian interior and a barn built specifically for modern receptions, with wooded ground linking the two.

Capacity & Layout

Chateau Amelia holds up to 100 guests seated or standing, and only one wedding is booked per day, so the estate belongs to a single couple for the whole event. That number fits a ceremony at the forest site or under the pavilion, followed by a reception in the barn or on the patio, without the grounds ever feeling shared with a second event running nearby on the same afternoon.

The event barn includes a bridal and flex suite with three restrooms, so the wedding party can stage and dress close to where the reception happens rather than crossing the property in formalwear. The Victorian home itself sleeps up to 16 overnight across five bedrooms, which means getting-ready photos can happen in the same rooms guests will later walk past on their way to dinner.

Amenities

The barn’s commercial kitchen supports full catering, and Chateau Amelia’s all-inclusive packages can bundle catering, photography, DJ services, and a licensed officiant for couples who want fewer vendors to coordinate. Parking is complimentary for every guest, with overflow space on the grassy area in front of the house, so arrival does not depend on a shuttle or a satellite lot down the road.

Because the venue requires a $1,000,000 liability policy and host liquor liability coverage for every event, the bar setup is handled with real insurance behind it rather than an informal arrangement. If rain moves the day indoors, the barn interior or the house’s covered wrap-around porch stand in for the forest ceremony site, so the backup plan is a real room, not a tent hastily raised.

Location & Getting There

Cross Hill sits in a rural stretch of upstate South Carolina, roughly an hour from the Greenville-Spartanburg airport, so most guests are driving in rather than flying into a downtown hotel. With only one wedding hosted per day, there is no competing load-in or overlapping ceremony schedule to plan around, which gives a DJ a full day of access rather than a tight window.

Sound behaves differently across the property: the forest ceremony site and pavilion are open air, where a compact PA carries the vows without fighting hard surfaces, while the barn’s vaulted ceilings and open layout give a reception mix room to breathe. After 9pm, music has to move inside the barn with the doors closed, so the closing set is built around that shift rather than around it catching anyone off guard.
