The Space
Carver Lake Venue occupies 30 acres facing a 7-acre lake in the northern Piedmont. The property has deep roots: Ernest Carver bought the 150-acre parcel in 1937, and his heirs held the land through generations of family gatherings and agricultural use. In 2015, after their niece’s wedding, family and friends suggested converting the property into an event venue. Patty and Tommy Carver began building the barn in 2016, constructing it themselves with help from family and friends. Tommy cut all the wood for the structure at a local mill and transported it 60 miles to the property in 90-minute hauls.
The barn is 64 feet by 40 feet, built on a concrete floor, with walls of vertical wooden planks and multiple windows that flood the interior with light. The wood is predominantly poplar, with reclaimed barn wood incorporated throughout, a nod to the property’s agricultural past and a signal of thoughtful material reuse. The ceremony takes place outdoors on the bank of Carvers Lake, where a white pergola overlooks the water and can be draped with fabric or flowers to match your vision. A white tent stands outside for additional seating, overflow dining, or catering space.
Capacity & Layout
The venue accommodates up to 200 guests total. For planning purposes, expect to seat about 120 comfortably inside the barn and an additional 60 in the white tent outside, giving flexibility depending on weather and your vision for moving between spaces. The barn’s two-story design, massive sliding doors, and windows create distinct moments: ceremony entry through the doors, cocktails outside, reception dining inside or in the tent.
A climate-controlled bridal suite is included, and a covered gazebo is set aside for the groom and groomsmen. The grounds include room for lawn games, photography in the open fields, and quiet moments for the wedding party before the ceremony begins.
Amenities
Parking is designated and accessible, with spaces for guests with mobility needs clearly marked. The venue welcomes beer and wine only, no liquor; you bring your own or arrange with an outside vendor familiar with the property. A day-of coordinator is included to help manage timing and logistics, ensuring the event flows smoothly from setup through departure.
The property is wheelchair accessible. In bad weather, both the barn and the white tent can serve as backup for an outdoor ceremony or reception plans without requiring a complete visual overhaul. Pets are welcome on the grounds for ceremonies and photos, making it possible to include a dog, horse, or other animal that’s meaningful to your family.
Location & Getting There
Prospect Hill is in Caswell County, about 20 minutes north of Yanceyville and roughly 50 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The area is rural and forested, with a strong sense of quiet country land and open vistas. The setting feels removed from suburban development while remaining reachable for out-of-town guests who can rent a car or drive from the Raleigh metro area.
The barn’s hard walls and concrete floor will project sound clearly across the interior. The space is well-suited to a centered dance floor with room for a DJ setup and dance lighting without crowding the perimeter where guests are seated. The outdoor ceremony space will benefit from portable sound reinforcement, particularly if more than 100 guests attend, as sound projecting across the lawn and over the water requires adequate system power.
