The Space

BHAWK is a destination distillery, bar, and restaurant built on 15 acres in Southern Pines, a rural area in the Sandhills region of North Carolina. The facility combines a working grain-to-glass distillery with multiple indoor and outdoor event spaces, creating a sense of immersion in the production and story of craft spirits. The main bar and restaurant occupy a central lodge-style building, with the distillery visible or accessible from most areas. The Sergeant Major Shannon McKinney Lounge and Terrace provide an intimate space, while the Predmore Room and West Patio accommodate larger receptions. The Nelms Rickhouse, a barrel-lined warehouse, offers a dramatic industrial backdrop. The aesthetic throughout feels authentic and earned rather than designed for a catalog: the spaces are built around actual production, so the character comes from function and history rather than decor.

The 15-acre property allows for separate ceremony and reception spaces, with outdoor areas that feel purposeful and connected to the working distillery. We have worked events here and found the multiple spaces offer genuine flexibility in how to structure a celebration.

Capacity & Layout

The venue accommodates various group sizes across multiple spaces. The Predmore Room and West Patio handle seated dinners and larger receptions. The McKinney Lounge works for intimate gatherings. The Nelms Rickhouse provides a distinctive ceremony or reception space with dramatic barrel-lined walls and industrial character. The outdoor ceremony area sits near the property’s pond. Getting-ready suites and a groom’s room are available. The spaces can be combined or separated depending on the size and flow you want.

The property’s open layout means guests can move between the distillery, bar, and event spaces naturally throughout the day and evening, with the working distillery remaining part of the experience throughout the event.

Amenities

BHAWK features full-service in-house catering with elevated comfort food prepared by their kitchen. The full bar offers craft cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options made from the distillery’s own spirits where applicable. Bridal and groom’s suites are available for party preparation. The property includes accessible facilities. Outdoor spaces offer both coverage and open-air options. A gift shop is on-site with take-home spirits, merchandise, and Arturo Fuente cigars. The restaurant and bar remain open during events for a lively, social atmosphere. Distillery tours run daily on the hour from 11am to 6pm, and event guests may be interested in a brief tour if timing allows.

Location & Getting There

BHAWK sits on Yadkin Road in Southern Pines, in Moore County, roughly an hour’s drive from Greensboro and ninety minutes from Charlotte or Raleigh. The location feels rural and intentional: Yadkin Road has historical significance in the distilling tradition of the region, and the property’s ownership by retired Army veterans adds to the place’s sense of purpose and mission. The distillery honors the military service of Brad and Jessica Halling, both retired Army veterans, through the Sergeant’s Valor tribute series and the naming of spaces after fallen soldiers and crew from the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu.

The multiple event spaces provide diverse acoustics and sound dynamics: the barrel-lined Nelms Rickhouse has excellent acoustics for ceremonies, the Predmore Room provides a more controlled indoor environment, and the outdoor West Patio and ceremony area offer natural sound dispersion suited to outdoor amplified music or a live band.
