The Space
BLDG39 at the Arsenal occupies a building constructed in 1917 as a paint shop inside the Frankford Arsenal, a World War I era munitions production complex in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia. The renovation kept the industrial bones in view: exposed brick walls, poured concrete flooring, exposed metal rafters, and oversized arched windows that fill the room with natural light, while mid-century modern furnishings and geometric mirrors bring in a softer, more contemporary layer.
The main indoor space runs 2,600 square feet under 30-foot ceilings, tall enough that the room reads as open and industrial rather than boxy, and large garage doors along one wall roll up to connect that space directly to an adjacent 1,000 square foot outdoor area. A seasonal 30×30 tent with string lighting covers the outdoor section when it is in use, turning the garage doors into a real threshold between indoor and outdoor rather than a decorative feature.
Capacity & Layout
Indoors, BLDG39 seats up to 130 guests fully seated or holds about 150 standing for a reception-style layout. Adding the outdoor tent brings total standing capacity to roughly 175, which gives a couple a meaningful jump in guest count by opening the garage doors rather than moving to a different room entirely.
The 2,600 square foot main room is large enough to hold both ceremony and reception without a break for a room flip in many layouts, and the connected outdoor area gives a natural spot for cocktail hour or overflow seating. A private bridal suite is available separately for wedding-day preparation, keeping getting-ready logistics out of the main event space entirely.
Amenities
A shared commercial kitchen on site hosts local catering companies and mobile food businesses, so a couple is not limited to a single in-house caterer, and the venue maintains partnerships with preferred vendors and caterers for those who want a shortlist rather than an open search. Ventilation runs through seven fans plus non-recycled air conditioning, worth knowing for a couple planning a warm-weather date under those 30-foot ceilings.
Free parking sits directly in front of the venue, a real convenience in a city neighborhood where paid or street parking is often the norm. For couples wanting a smaller day, BLDG39 also offers micro wedding packages for Sunday afternoons or evenings, capped at 25 guests, a scaled-down option built around the same industrial-chic room rather than a separate space.
Location & Getting There
The venue sits in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia, inside what were once the stone confines of the Frankford Arsenal, a piece of World War I military history that now hosts weddings, engagement parties, showers, and rehearsal dinners instead of munitions production. We have worked one wedding here, with sound running through the main room and out toward the garage doors into the tented outdoor space.
Because the free parking sits right at the door, guests arriving by car have an easy, direct walk into the venue rather than a search for a lot blocks away. The room’s mix of hard poured concrete flooring, exposed brick, and a 30-foot ceiling with exposed metal rafters gives sound plenty of room to travel, so a DJ setup here plays to a tall, semi-industrial space that opens straight through the garage doors into the tented area when the two are combined for a larger crowd.
