The Space

Five generations of the Brown family worked this land before any of it hosted a wedding, starting with Thomas and Polly Ann Brown and passing down through William D. Brown, who was deeded the property in 1920. The family ran a dairy and tobacco operation here for more than 50 years, milking cows into the herd’s later years before retiring from farming in 1998, and that working history is what the current barn and grounds still carry.

The hay barn at the center of it all was built in 1948 using wood timbered right off the farm, a two-story structure that once stored hay and now holds events instead. In 2017, three Brown brothers turned the family property into a venue, finishing renovations by spring 2018 while keeping the barn’s original character, including its loft’s restored tongue-and-groove wood floors, intact throughout.

Capacity & Layout

The Barn at Cranberry Creek seats 200 guests, and the property gives a couple several distinct places to use that number across the day. The Meadow sits between the farm and Cranberry Creek itself as an outdoor ceremony option, while The Lot, a courtyard strung with Edison lights and set with pergolas, works as either a ceremony site or a dance floor depending on how the day is planned.

For the reception, the hay barn loft handles dining and dancing, reached by two staircases, with a covered pavilion and outdoor courtyard extending the space further for cocktail hour or overflow seating. That range of options, from the wide-open loft to the string-lit Lot, means a couple can spread a 200-guest wedding across several settings without cramming everyone into one room for the whole evening.

Amenities

A bridal room with vanities, mirrors, and a lounging area connects to the ladies restroom, while a separate groom’s suite sits inside the property’s silo with its own dressing and lounging areas and a television, giving both sides of the wedding party a real space to prepare rather than a shared back room. Catering prep space includes a double sink, ice machine, microwave, and commercial cooler for outside caterers.

Restrooms are heated and cooled indoors, and the venue offers full access to hundreds of decor accessories kept in its own prop barn, cutting down on what a couple needs to rent or bring in separately. Outdoor games including cornhole are part of the package too, and for safety reasons candles are not allowed on the premises, with electric candles provided as the alternative.

Location & Getting There

The venue sits less than 30 minutes from Winston-Salem and about an hour from both Charlotte and Greensboro, with hotels available within a 10-minute drive for out of town guests who need to stay over. There is no onsite lodging, so that nearby hotel option is worth building into the timeline early for a couple planning a full weekend around the wedding.

We have worked a wedding at the Barn at Cranberry Creek, and the loft’s two staircases and open dining and dancing space are the main thing to plan sound around: the tongue-and-groove floors and open ceiling in the loft carry a DJ setup well for dancing, while a ceremony held out in The Meadow or on The Lot under the Edison lights needs its own separate sound setup, since those outdoor spots sit apart from the barn’s power and structure.
