The Space
This barn in Elkin started in 1949 as a working structure, built by the owner’s grandfather, uncle, and neighbors using hand-poured concrete filled with field rock and solid oak joists cut from the farm itself. That hands-on history is part of what a couple is choosing when they book it, a barn raised by family rather than a replica built to look old, decades before anyone planned a wedding inside it.
The barn originally held four levels used for horse stalls, hay storage, and milking, and it still carries that working layout even after restoration. A gambrel-style loft ceiling rises 20 feet overhead, framed by the original oak beams, and the whole structure now sits climate-controlled with heat and air conditioning, so the barn’s age shows in its bones without asking guests to sit through a hot or cold reception.
Capacity & Layout
The Barn at Blueberry Hill seats 150 guests for both ceremony and reception, enough room to keep the wedding day inside one coherent space rather than shuttling the group between buildings. A natural wood gazebo out on the grounds gives a centralized outdoor ceremony option, set against a tranquil pond framed by the rolling hills of Yadkin Valley Wine Country, a setting a couple will want to build their photo timeline around.
A quaint side room with weathered white walls and large windows sits just off the main barn, sized right for cocktail hour or dessert service rather than the full reception, which lets a couple stage part of the evening in a smaller, softer-lit room before moving everyone back into the loft for dancing under those 20-foot ceilings and oak beams.
Amenities
Onsite lodging is part of the package: a farmhouse sleeping 8 guests across 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, included with wedding bookings for two nights, so the wedding party can stay on the property itself instead of driving in from town the morning of the ceremony. Parking is handled by an attendant on staff, one less logistics detail for a couple to manage on the day itself.
Because the barn is climate-controlled, the venue can also offer a backup plan for outdoor portions of the day if weather turns, moving a ceremony planned for the gazebo into the barn itself without losing the day’s structure. Sitting on 200 acres as a working farm, the property also frames its views toward the Blue Ridge and Pilot Mountains, giving photographs a mountain backdrop beyond the pond and gazebo.
Location & Getting There
The barn is about one hour from both Charlotte and Winston-Salem, 30 minutes from Stone Mountain State Park, and roughly two and a half hours from Raleigh, which places it firmly in the foothills rather than convenient to any one metro area. Couples drawing guests from Charlotte or the Triad get an easier drive than those pulling from the eastern part of the state.
We have worked a wedding at the Barn at Blueberry Hill, and the four-level structure with its 20-foot gambrel loft is the thing to plan sound around: that tall, open loft carries a DJ setup and dancing well since the oak beams and open ceiling let volume spread evenly, while the smaller side room with its weathered walls and windows works better for quieter background music during cocktail hour or dessert service.
