Owners Allison and Jim Bansen bought the land as a complete fixer-upper: a farmhouse, three barns, and open acreage that all needed renovation before any of it could host a wedding. That history shapes how the place reads now, restored rather than newly built, so the barn and grounds carry the texture of a working farm even though everything is set up for events.

The farmhouse itself, about 60 years old, runs separately as a three-bedroom, one-bath Airbnb with a dining room that seats eight, which matters for a couple who wants the wedding party to stay on site the night before or after. After dark the grounds light up with more than 3,000 cafe lights strung through the gardens plus landscape lighting along the paths, and that lit-up look at night is usually what guests remember and photograph most.

Capacity & Layout

Bansen Farms holds 150 to 175 guests, and that range shapes the floor plan for both ceremony and reception. Multiple ceremony sites sit across the property: a garden setting, a wooded spot, and an open field, each one lined with evergreen and hydrangea plantings along the aisle. Choosing between them is really choosing a backdrop, since all three sit within a short walk of the reception buildings, which keeps the day moving without long guest transfers between locations.

For the reception, the climate-controlled barn is the main indoor space, with a sailcloth tent and outdoor gathering areas available as an extension once the guest count runs toward the upper end of that 150 to 175 range. Splitting cocktail hour and dinner between the barn and the tent is a practical way to use both spaces without crowding either one, and it gives a couple two distinct settings inside one afternoon.

Climate control in the barn means the reception space holds a steady temperature no matter the season, which matters on a property built mostly around outdoor scenery. The farm sits about 20 minutes south of downtown Charlotte, close enough that out of town guests flying into the city are not stranded on a long rural drive to get there. That proximity also means vendors, us included, can move equipment in and out without the longer haul that some Yadkin Valley or foothills venues require on setup day.
