The Space

Arabella Farm is a working family farm before it is anything else: Ken and Sharon Smith built it in the fall of 2018 on 72 acres they named for Juliette Arabella, a daughter they adopted from Upstate South Carolina in the summer of 2012. That name is not decoration, a portion of every event’s proceeds goes back into supporting adoption and foster care in Pickens County through the Arabella Fund, so the venue’s mission is part of what a couple is booking.

The main event barn runs 7,700 square feet across a 58-by-98-foot footprint, fully heated and air-conditioned, which means the farm books weddings year-round rather than treating winter and high summer as dead months. The property only hosts one event per day, so a couple’s wedding is not sharing the grounds, the parking, or the staff’s attention with another party setting up down the road.

Capacity & Layout

The farm seats up to 250 for a dinner and can hold 350 standing, a range wide enough to cover most guest lists without the couple needing to choose a smaller venue or trim their invitation. Ceremonies happen either under the covered vineyard patio, looking out at orchards and vines, or inside the barn itself, and the barn doubles as a genuine rain plan rather than a tent thrown up at the last minute.

Tables are 60-inch rounds seating 8 to 10 guests, with a limited number of straight tables available for head tables or sweetheart setups, so couples planning their floor chart know the shape they are working with in advance. Two furnished get-ready suites, one for the bride and one for the groom, sit on site, which keeps the wedding party on the property rather than arriving already dressed from a hotel.

Amenities

The in-house bar covers beer, wine, specialty cocktails, and full liquor service, and the venue is fully wheelchair accessible with parking laid out to match, room enough for 150 cars, including overnight parking for guests who would rather not drive after the reception. Dogs are welcome at the ceremony and for photos as long as they stay on a leash with someone responsible for them, which matters to couples who consider a pet part of the wedding party.

Beyond the wedding itself, the farm keeps a petting zoo with horses, donkeys, goats, sheep, alpacas, peacocks, turkeys, chicks, and rabbits, along with a playground, an aquaponics greenhouse, and an observation beehive built to teach visitors about sustainable agriculture. None of that is a standard wedding-venue amenity, and it gives guests, especially kids, somewhere to go during the long stretch between ceremony and dinner.

Location & Getting There

Sunset is a small rural town in the Appalachian foothills near Greenville, and the farm’s setting, orchards, a vineyard, and a working waterfall on the property, gives out-of-town guests a real sense of arriving somewhere rather than pulling into a generic event lot. More than 50 hotels and bed-and-breakfasts sit within 20 miles, so lodging for a large out-of-town guest list is genuinely close rather than a long drive back after the reception.

Venue policy calls for music to end one hour before the booked package time runs out, which gives guests and vendors, us included, time to load out safely rather than packing down in the dark against a hard deadline. The barn’s hard interior surfaces and open 58-by-98-foot floor carry sound cleanly across a full room, while the covered vineyard patio outside gives a softer, more open-air option for ceremony music before the crowd moves indoors for dancing.
